Highlands

This is the land of the people who live in the mountains themselves. Several small towns and villages dot the mountainside where it is hospitable, mainly consisting of small communities that are self-dependent. Farms and lumberyards are commonplace, and the towns are usually built alongside streams. There is the increased threat of wildlife here.
The Highland people are known as Highlanders, and sometimes as the Children of Ash. They used to live in nomadic clans fighting amongst themselves for land until the Iron Empire came to conquer. Clans and their animalistic symbols were destroyed, forced to settle into towns which they named after their clan name. This is why Iron Houses consider it barbaric to have a House banner of an animal, as this is what the Highlanders have always done.
  • Trees found in the Highlands include various Oaks, Sentinels, and Pines. Thick forests cover the sides of the beautiful Virnach mountains, enlivened by the cold rivers running from the mountains as ice melts. Thick overgrowth and mossy ground.
  • The cattle of the Highlander people are Aurochs. Also farmed are chickens, pigs, and sheep. The wild animals found throughout the wilds are red deer, boar, wolves, and bears. Plus all small game and hawks/falcons.
  • One of the biggest exports of the Highlands to Iron is their wool and game-meat.
  • Highlanders wear leather armor usually. Studded leather or boiled leather armor. Some have chain mail, but not suits of armor. It is mainly chain mail.
The Highlands are ruled by the Godbane family. They became royalty during the Burning War, as the people of the Highlands crowned the first High King Adelbrand I Godbane, who did not want the crown, but he was their best bet at beating back Iron. It is thanks to Adelbrand that Iron did not completely squash the Highlands. Now, they rule from Chillhold beneath the Iron Emperor, cowed beneath him in sworn servitude. The Godbane family have been trying to preserve Highlander culture for over 100 years against the oppression of Iron.
Although a new King, the Rune King has named himself in the North.
