Culture
Very good luck to have twins and name them after the founders. When children of Isdemor are born, it is considered to mean that an era of good fortune will come to the House. They will throw expensive banquets and celebrate for decades on end, becoming somewhat rash and arrogant during the time they consider to be blessed by God. Isdemor, perhaps from living for generations within the iron walls of Hero's Rest are a happy House, outspoken and upright, prideful of themselves and all they have accomplished, even if those accomplishments were done long ago and only because of ancient artifacts.
The House motto eludes to the celebrated twin-nature of Isdemor, and their origins as sons of Priscilla Glore.
History
A House of fishermen that grew wealthy on the shores of Ydall's Heart using Priscillan artifacts.
Priscilla Glore was born sometime around 250AW, over 250 years ago. She grew up in the ancient halls of Old Iron, far from the land of Iron and its huge number of roaming Lost. Priscilla found herself as a Soulomancer, which, during those times was disastrous. The fact that she was cousin to the King is the only reason she was not burned at the stake immediately. The people of the Old Iron Kingdom had dealt with catastrophe after catastrophe caused by mad Soulomancers unable to control the sheer power within souls. The Drowning of Veler's Temple in Gloripoli. Quintus the Mad during the Yellow Campaign. Priscilla was watched and kept isolated, made sure to never absorb souls in case she lost control. But Priscilla wanted to live. She was creativity incarnate, and needed to express herself. She became a painter, a jeweler, a goldsmith. She worked with tailors and learned all the trades in the Iron Kingdom, mastering them all with the blood of Glore aiding her. But it was not enough for her. Eventually she turned to Soulomancy, against the wishes of her ruling House, but not as others had before. She did not care for spells. She wanted to see how souls interacted with materials. With physical objects. Spending decades on this, Priscilla eventually figured out how to use iron, the life blood of her Kingdom, as a vassal for souls. And with a specific creation process during the smithing, she could give it near limitless possibility, allowing the souls to fuel artifacts of innate magic while protecting the user from The Soul Logic. A few examples of Priscillan artifacts are magical paintings and moving portraits, jewelry that can create water, hypnotic lutes, and an invisible cloak.
A list of Priscilla's artifacts can be found here:
Priscilla spent her life perfecting all kinds of crafts, creating objects unparalleled in usefulness and beauty and passing them out amongst her family and closest friends. Tragically, before her death, she could not deal with her own mortality. She saw so many more artifacts to create and so little time. In an effort to prolong her own life, she attempted to infuse her own soul into Ironweave. This heretical process ended with the creation of The Black Blade, Priscilla's final artifact and only one that pertained to war. Some say that she is still within this blade, fighting to escape and rise to the Burn. This reinforced the Iron Kingdom's view on Soulomancy as something to be put down if it appears.
During the Great Settling, Alden and Eadmod, Priscilla's twin sons, fought hard against rebelling tribes to bring honor back to their mother's name. When Paramonus settled in the Hero's Rest, Alden and Eadmod settled there too, intent on catching the mythical beast that was said to roam the waters of Ydall's Heart and terrorize the local fishermen. Alden used his mothers artifact, the Aurum Lure to draw the great beast in (a lure that attracts creatures in the depths), and then enchanted it with the Lute of Orpheus to enchant it (the lute could control and make docile any animal). Eadmod, his twin used Hydramarchia to walk on the water of the lake and strike the killing blow with the Black Blade. They created Silverfin Hall out of its bones, and garnered wealth and power from this exploit. The beast turned out to be a gargantuan whale-shark, grown fat on human meat.
The two twins then started House Isdemor by giving their children that name instead of Glore, the name harking back to their father's name, Isdemorius. They never forgot their Glore lineage, and ties to Priscilla, but over the centuries, House Isdemor has somewhat fallen to glorified fishermen in the eyes of many.
