DRAMATIS PERSONAE
THE BATTLELANCE, Father of the House. Renowned for being unmatched in knightly tourneys with the lance. His actual name has been lost to history, now known only as the Battlelance.- His daughter, Cassia Carantus, of Lancer. Wife to Abelardus Carantus and mother of Darrik Carantus, both Duke's of Radiant Lance at some point.
- His son, Sir Wulfric Lancer, a gorgeous knight known for his player ways and sleeping around. Had children with two Carantus daughters in quite a scandal, and had one son with each of them, and then a daughter of which the two Carantus daughters fought for possession of. This is fabled in the Dance of Lances.
- Smyte Carantus, daughter of Goldbeard and younger sister to Castinus. One of Wulfric's lovers.
- Kenry Lancer, the Wartide, son of Wulfric and Smyte. One of the greatest sailors in all of Iron lore and sworn enemy of the Seaspark. Captained the ship named after his mother, the Holy Smyte.
- Ayenna Carantus, daughter of Goldbeard and younger sister to Castinus and Smyte. Lover of Wulfric.
- Percy Lancer, the Seaspark, son of Wulfric and Ayenna. One of the greatest sailors in all of Iron lore and sworn enemy of the Wartide. Captained the ship named after his mother, the Lovely Ayenna.
- Elayne Lancer, thought to be either the daughter of Smyte or Ayenna and object of many battles between the Wartide and Seaspark. Both Ayenna and Smyte gave birth at the same time, both children of Sir Wulfric. One child died in the nursery, and both Smyte and Ayenna claim it was the others, smothered in the crib out of jealousy by the other. The child that lived grew to be Elayne, of whom both the Wartide and Seaspark claim as a sister and fought over. In the end, the two half-brothers killed themselves over Elayne, and Elayne killed herself out of despair, ending the Dance of Lances. Elayne had children however, and they continued the great Lancer line.
- Sir Cedric Lancer, son of Elayne. To avoid the pain that the Dance caused, Cedric directed his attention away from the water and back to the roots of his House. He let Carantus take over the seafaring and water trade and focused his noble assets on perfecting jousting.
- Sir Helion Lancer, second son of Elayne. A renowned Lancer.
- Gwyneth Lancer, daughter of Elayne.
- Sir Norman 'Battlelance' Lancer, Current House Leader and son of Cedric Lancer. Lord of Duskport. Norman has garnered the great title of Battlelance for his unparalleled skill atop a horse. He has defeated the Blackthall knights in tourneys, even though they cannot be unhorsed.
- Rosalind Lancer, sister to Norman.
- Sir Tempestor Lancer, cousin to the Battlelance, son of Gwyneth Lancer.
Public Agenda
Their motto plays off of House Lancer's reputation for tourney prowess and sailing expertise. It suggests that they are a house of skilled and adaptable fighters, able to thrive in both the orderly arena of the tournament and the chaotic seas. The use of alliteration also gives the motto a memorable and poetic quality.
History
With the exploration of Carantus across the Rusted Sea, pirates sprouted up all along the coast. A King rose amongst the ranks of pirates, a Soleri man that had been outlawed from his nomadic tribe and traveled far to the north to live a life on the sea. He was ambitious and ruthless, this Sea Fox, and wanted all the hoarded gold of Radiant Lance. The Carantus House boasted too much, and the Sea Fox wanted a share. He spent many years trying to fight through to the Lance by sea, but was thwarted at every turn by the two warring brothers, the Wartide and the Seaspark, who were always trying to prove themselves better than the other. Infuriated for years, the Sea Fox was forced to retreat, but he came up with a new plan. Ethos' long finger stretched deep mainland, and he thought they could get in down that river, race across the land between the river's end and the lance, surprise the city, then pillage and loot, retreating back down the river all before the Wartide and Seaspark could dock and fight back. A couple pirates scouted the area out and found just the small fort belonging to the insignificant Principal House of Vaele; Rangor. They went back to their King and told him the plan, and the entire Pirate Fleet set sail. The rest of the tale of the Breaking can be found here: House Rangor.
The Wartide and Seaspark, besides the Battlelance, are the most famous members of House Lancer. Their infamous Dance of Lances lasted 13 years, and only ended because of tragedy and death. The two hated each other, but respected one another's skill as well. They competed in varying competitions that escalated slowly but surely to violence. During this time, the Breaking occurred at Ethos' Finger as well. More can be read about it here: The Dance of Lances .
