House Vanth

An old Iron House once of Lucius Hall, now extinct with the death of Sir Biselis Vanth. The Vanth banner is a dark purple background. The device was an aflame white sword. Later, the Order of the Rose would take the dark purple as their own background, as no House used the color after the extinction of Vanth.

DRAMATIS PERSONAE

Sir Lucius Vanth, a great knight of legend that built Lucius Hall during the Great Settling. Lucius is loved and celebrated all across Iron for almost singlehandedly winning dozens of battles during this tumultuous era of migration and being the King’s best, most loyal knight. However, in his attempts to forge a legacy in the Vanth name, he abused and tortured his sons to try and make them as strong as possible. He killed a dozen sons and all his daughters through horrific processes of extreme duress, and only one lived, who, following Lucius’ vision did in fact become a Titan from the horror. Now there are tales about Lucius Hall and the children’s bones that it was built upon. Much is lost to history, and House Aegis rule Lucius Hall, intent on covering up its past.
Sir Biselis Vanth, the Noble Titan. Son of Lucius Vanth and a great Titan knighted during the Burning War 127 years ago. Lived his whole life trying to escape his father’s shadow and settled in the Highlands to try and find inner peace. Never married. Defeated the Highland Titan in the ‘Duel of the Titans’ during the Burning War.
Although history has forgotten them, Biselis remembers all the siblings slain before his eyes. Only three or so share a mother, as Lucius wanted to make sure blood would not affect the chance of having a Titan.

The list of important persons from Vanth is much longer, but much of their history has been redacted by the Alchemists of the Iron Empire to avoid shame. One of their great Titans forsook their ruling House and left.

History

Sir Lucius, Lord of Lucius Hall was a great knight that lived during first the Great Settling, then into the Failed King's rule. He built Lucius Hall in the Heartlands and fought for the Failed King in his attempt to quell the Highlands and bring them into the Iron Kingdom. However, Lucius despite all his skill and entire life dedicated to training, was easily bested by Ivarr Bloodwolf, the Blood Titan. Humiliated alongside his King, Lucius retreated back to the Heartlands. He became obsessed with the idea of a Titan. There were stories of such characters during the Blood Age, but one existed in the modern day and fought against them. He had seen it with his own eyes. Ivarr was the better of a hundred men by himself. His skin near impenetrable, his strength unparalleled. Lucius believed that Ivarr could literally move mountains. He had seen him jump over one. From this point on, Lucius dedicated his entire life to figuring out the truth behind a Titan. Studying their origins, the stories, how they come about, the Soul Logic itself. He surmised that trauma at a young age may be the key to unlocking it. So, obsessed and humiliated, he enacted his plans.
He abused and tortured his sons in front of each other to try and make them as strong as possible. He killed a dozen sons and all his daughters through horrific processes of extreme duress while the others watched, progressively introducing new ways of torture, both physical and mental, and even spiritual. Only one of his sons lived, who, overwhelmingly relived with triumph and acceptance in his abusive fathers eyes, followed Lucius’ vision of becoming a Titan for the Empire and bringing glory to the Vanth name. There are tales about Lucius Hall and the children’s bones that it was built upon. Much is lost to history, and House Aegis rule Lucius Hall, intent on covering up its past. An old man, crippled with age, Lucius saw his last son off to become a knight, a great and chivalrous titan to be used as a tool by the Empire. He would sit in his chair in his Hall and wait to hear of the glory of his House that he brought about.
Perhaps due to the trauma of his horrific upbringing, Sir Biselis sought out the knights of the Iron Empire and wholly devoted himself to their practice and serving the Empire in all things. He wished to avoid the hard decisions of life, and to follow orders only. To have to think too much would just bring him back to the bone-littered grounds of Lucius Hall. When it became known that he was a Titan, the Last King, Theodosius Glore, pulled Biselis aside and swore him to secrecy. Theodosius was still a prince at the time, but had big plans to usurp his failure of a father and create an Empire. Biselis obliged, and when the Black Blade slew the Failed King and Theodosius rose to power, he did so with Biselis, the Noble Titan by his side. Biselis lived with unparalleled chivalry, following the seven Knightly Virtues to the letter, and never straying. He was obsessive, but well loved by the people, despite him never being able to be attached to anyone or anything. He fought for the Empire with tooth and nail, astride his monstrous warhorse and in gleaming armor. However, he found that no armor could hold his frame for long. After each battle, such was Biselis' strength that he would have broken the armor from the inside. At the beginning of the Burning War, Theodosius Glore bestowed Biselis the Ironclad, a suit of armor that enhances the wearer's strength and speed, while also providing excellent protection. The Soulwoven artifact was Xandrian, created by Xandros, and required souls to run. But Biselis was a Titan, and absorbing souls was something he alone could do. The armor resisted his great strength, and Biselis did not break it. He found himself even better protected, and able to use the heavy armor better than any mortal.
In the Burning War, Biselis was unparalleled, mindlessly slaying the Empire's enemies in the hundreds while protecting his own people with ferocity. In the infamous Clash of Titans, he slew Ivarr Bloodwolf, the very Titan who had inspired Biselis' father to seek out the truth. He also met Iqhawe of No Tribe, another Titan working for the Empire. But, as he fought in the Highlands, a place of such natural beauty, and killed the Highlanders, a people so loving and protective that they would stand against such an overwhelming but oppressive force, he found his mind awakening from its long servitude.
After the Burning War, disgusted by the Empire and finally breaking out of his traumatic cycle, Biselis quit. He traveled south to Lucius Hall and strode up to his father, who welcomed him with open arms, trying to hug his son for the first time as he had heard of the Clash of Titans and how much of a success Biselis was. Biselis slew him with one swift stroke, then left. He disappeared from the Empire entirely, only reappearing much later deep in the Heartlands in a town known as Oakhart , where he decided to settle down and live out the rest of his days. He would atone for the sins of his life, and the sin of living in his view, by living a simple life amongst those he helped oppress. He would help protect them from the dangers of the Lost, and help build and forage for food. He would be, simply, another townsfolk and nothing more.
