Virnach
Also known as North Iron. The biggest mountain range in Vaskeer, the Virnach Mountains tips reach as high as the Ivory Wall itself. The largest mountains in the range are topped with snow throughout the year, and in winter the mountains are filled with snow and threaten avalanches. However, lakes and rivers of fresh water run through the mountains, allowing many people to settle in the middle section of the range and naming it The Highlands. Trees cover the mountains wherever they can grow, and mountain wildlife thrives in this good land. The mountains upmost point is around the same height as the Ivory Wall, at about 3000 feet tall.
Mining is also very prosperous within the mountains. There are large deposits of Iron, for which the empire took its name from, but also all other essential minerals found here too. Much of the mountains is still unexplored. The mountains and hills crowding around them are littered with many animals, the most deadly of which is the bear. There are also several wolves, boar, and red deer.
The ice-cold rivers running from the mountains collects in a freshwater lake at their base named Ydall’s Heart. Built around this lake is the capital city of the Iron Empire: Hero’s Rest. Hero’s Rest is a foreboding city of steel that can be both cold and regal. It is filled with many noble, rich Houses that have grown wealthy through trade and other mining means in the Empire, but is also filled with the poor, beggars and criminals that use the city to stay under the radar.
Large, imposing walls surround the city of Hero’s Rest, built during the Burning War. The city itself is bleak and lacks color but is surrounded by a beautiful lake and forestry. The forestry has been severely cut back away from the city due to it being cut down for resources but can still be seen.
There are three main roads that lead out of Hero’s Rest. The Northern Road is named the High Road, which follows the path of the rivers up into the Virnach Mountains to Blood Mountain, and then through to Chillhold in the Highlands. The Soulsway goes east to Goodsoul and then down the Lance to Radiant Lance. The Stone Road goes to the west and follows at the base of the Virnach mountains, eventually leading deeper into the Stone Labyrinth. It splits early into a southern road in mixed states of disrepair that runs down the Shield. The Stone Road also splits to the Sun Trail which leads into the Ember Dominance.
The emperor himself, Leocius Glore is the Iron Lord of Virnach and Duke of Hero's Rest.
