Morning
Primeheart spent the morning at his camp. Rosie had been down in the sewers during the past week, needing some space after getting overwhelmed. Oisin stayed at home most of the morning, then made their way to the nature temple. They also stopped at Arlund’s to get supplies. Kali relaxed at her temple for a little while. Finkoo went to work but finished up early to spend some time with Daisy before heading to the Beer Forge. Saxi worked and then met up with the others.
The Beer Forge
The group helped fill Rosie in on what she had missed while down in the sewers, though they left out Haley’s death. The Beer Forge was busy and noisy, so it did not feel appropriate to tell her till later. After talking briefly about the day’s activities, the group decided to head to Pinból’s to ask him about the Sub Rosarium, also they could use this as a private place to let Rosie know the sad news.
Pinból's Tower
Rosie, understandably, took the news about Haley very hard and went to another room, needing some time in private to get her feelings out. Primeheart asked the group whether they thought Haley would she still be alive, if he had raised her immediately. Feeling this had been on his mind since the other day, everyone responded that they were not sure what would have happened. They knew she had technically been dead before, so they had no idea if it would have worked.
Rosie lamented to Kali that she felt strongly about Haley, and how she had been thinking about telling her those feelings. Rosie had wanted to try being honest with her, even though she hadn’t thought it would change things. Kali told her that she needs to find a way to start loving herself before finding love in another, and the group would help her get there. Rosie also asked if Mari was doing okay and Kali told her that Mari was hurting too. The two spent a little more time in private to help comfort Rosie a little longer, before returning to the group.
The Divine Foundry
The group then went to arrange an interview with Vasafra, including everyone this time. She told Kali, who had gone to ask, that it was a good time for the meeting and Kali went to get the rest of the them. The group wanted to get more information on the required jobs that were mentioned before. The jobs were revealed to be item retrieval tasks, which would require expeditions that the Sub Rosarium would sponsor.
Vasafra spent a lot of time being as transparent as possible in talking through the jobs and the benefits. The Sub Rosarium would pay the 10,000 gold fee for the group to apply as an adventuring guild. The group would have to lobby in the Sub Rosarium’s interest for a certain period of time, probably at least a year. The group would be associated with the city and would never have to stand against Cinderhaven. Vasafra didn't think that the Sub Rosarium would have goals that went directly against the city, but she could not say that interests would never diverge.
The group would have to do, or at least earnestly attempt, two jobs for the Sub Rosarium. One would be on Lamina Island and one in the country to the north, where Kali was from. She also admitted that the Sub Rosarium was working on projects with eirshale. Vasafra thought that it could be negotiated for the Sub Rosarium to work with smaller pieces instead of large chunks, and possibly sell larger pieces to the Goa.
Kali also asked whether any of those two items were Eirshale, to which Vasafra responded that they were not, but the project they were for did include the use of Eirshale. Vasafra also asked the group for any benefits they could think of wanting from the Sub Rosarium, and those could be discussed later. Kali said she would talk to Cyl about this, as it meant a lot to both of them.
After talking more, the group learned that the Sub Rosarium would not ever try and take away the group’s role of protecting the city. They would also not openly try to directly go against the city. After some more personal talking after the meeting, Vasafra told them to let her know after talking it over as a group, and also commented on how difficult it could be for everyone to be in agreement.
Oisin went to catch up with Vasafra before she left, asking who P.M was. Vasafra told them she didn’t know anyone who would have fit the description of giving Pinból the clock. She suggested they just ask Pinból themselves. The group then decided to go and talk to the other guilds, and see what benefits they’d offer if they joined.
The Steel Syndicate
The group decides to speak to the group on land first and went to the Steel Syndicate to talk with Hasko. Kali headed up to set up a meeting, along with apologizing for her actions at their firt meeting. While waiting downstairs, the rest of the group met a member of another prospective guild Novis, from the Valkyries. After pleasantries were exchanged, Kali suggested that Novis may want to look into recruiting Zreet for their guild. The group then went to speak with Hasko. As she left, Hasko had Novis show the group her “magic trick” and she burst into flame, revealing that she was a phoenix aarakocra.
Hasko told the group that they would not be kicked out of the guild for turning down jobs, but there were punishments and fines. The group would have to make a formal application to Hasko and turn in paperwork. He would interview everyone individually and "dig deeper" into them before deciding to add them. He said that he thought the group would pass and that they were impressive.
The group would have to represent the Syndicate’s interests, which meant make money. All income would be “taxed” to pay 30% to the guild, 20 of that % was the city's fees and 10% would go to the guild itself. Hasko would give jobs based off the group’s skills and, since the party had so many different skills, they would be able to take on a lot of different jobs. As long as the party brought in enough money, he wouldn't care if they chose to pass on jobs.
Higher ranked members of the guild could pass on more jobs. Also, each group could not interfere with any of the other groups, or their jobs, on purpose. Accidents could happen, but it could not be on purpose. The group would not be required to help the other groups, but it did mean that others may not help them in turn. This could also mean standing by and letting the other group fail their job, but stepping in to save their lives. He said that any group in the Syndicate would step in to save the others from death, if not failure.
The group took all this into account, then left to think it over. There were some reservations about Hasko and some of their rules. The general consensus was that the group was still leaning more toward Vasafra’s offer.
Bilgeport/ Birchfield Seekers' Ship
As the group got there, they noticed the water was filled with boats and learned about a fishing tournament going on. Then, they were approached by an older man who rented a banana boat to them to get to the Birchfield ship. The captain agreed to see them immediately. They got right down to the biggest restrictions within being part of the Birchfield.
Maerryl said that joining would mean becoming part of a rigid, militaristic automaton. The group would have no say who they were with, where they went, or what they did. She did say that those with them would become friends and family over time. Maerryl had been to places, seen things, and eaten things that others only dreamt of, but she was not allowed to have a family.
In exchange, she got room and board. She had access to information and places that were extremely varied. She did says that proctors investigated/specialized in other areas and usually stayed within a certain region, but it was extremely hard to become a proctor. She said that the group could ask to be stationed in Cinderhaven as seekers, but there were no guarantees.Ultimately, she admitted that if the group didn’t want to be told where to go and what to do, then Birchfield was not for them.
The information was direct, and candid. As expected, the group didn’t agree with a lot of the requirements for joining. The group all headed home, with Kali and Primeheart going to see Pinból. Primeheart asked if Pinból would like to sponsor the group, and Pinból said that he couldn’t. It was inappropriate, but he would if he could. Pinból also decided to reveal that the tower existed both in the sky and on the ground, adding an extra level of protection.
Oisin asked about P.M on the clock. Pinból said that they passed away 17 years ago, and that they were special, before Oisin. Rosie spent some time with Mari, before attempting a Sending to Haley. Only then remembering that she couldn’t do that anymore.
