Spell List: Runes

Runes serve as semi-permanent auras that require an action to activate and concentration to maintain. If certain talents are chosen these can be activated with bonus actions and up to three runes can be maintained at once. As long as each active rune is of a different tier. Every person in the aura must roll a WISDOM RESIST against each runic aura that affects them. The WISDOM RESIST threshold is different for each rune tier (and listed below).

All runic auras have a radius of 5m from the caster unless otherwise stated in the rune description (size is not influenced by ‘Ancestral Rune talent).

Tier 1

The WISDOM RESIST threshold for Tier 1 runes is 15.

1-level Enchantment

Increases the Magic Resistance of all allies within the aura by 5.

Barrier Rune

1-level Enchantment

Casting Time: 1 action
Range/Area: 5m radius
Components: Verbal, Material
Materials: Barrier Rune
Duration: As long as concentration lasts
Forms an ephemeral barrier that resembles a stone wall that blocks all ranged weapons and spells from entering. The barrier takes the damage instead and has 40hp x the runecaller's level.

Rune of Purification

1-level Enchantment

Casting Time: 1 action
Range/Area: 5m radius

Materials: Rune of Purification
Duration: As long as concentration lasts
Creates an aura of purity that prevents anyone from acquiring the poisoned or diseased trait. It will also remove the trait from any currently afflicted, and will prevent anyone from taking poison and disease damage while within the aura.

Rune of Fiery Wrath

Empowers the weapons of all in the aura with fire, causing attacks with them to deal an additional 2d4 fire damage.

Rune of Traction

Materials: Rune of Traction
Duration: As long as concentration lasts
While within the runes aura allies have their movement speed doubled, while enemies have their movement halved. This effect applies when within, entering and leaving the aura. For example, if an ally with 5 total movement uses 3, then enters the aura, their remaining movement (2) would double (4) for the rest of their turn, or until they left the aura. Then at the start of their next turn it would be 10, but if they used 4 and left the aura their remaining movement (6) would half (3).

Tier 2

Ancestor Rune

Duration: As long as concentration lasts
Summons the spirits of your ancestors in a 5m radius around the caster. These spirits deal 2d8 damage to all hostile creatures that end their turn in the area.

2-level Enchantment

Heals all allies within the aura by 2+level at the end of each of the runecaller's turns.

Sanctuary Rune

2-level Enchantment

Range/Area: 5m radius
Materials: Sanctuary Rune
Duration: As long as concentration lasts
The runecaller goes into a trance and summons a 5m sphere (extends underground) of ephemeral runes on the floor that requires all their attention (other runes will cease to function as will any latent glyphs). While maintained nothing can enter or leave and no harm can break the barrier while the runes remain intact.

Tier 3

The WISDOM RESIST threshold for Tier 3 runes is 22.

Rune of the Storm

3-level Enchantment

Casting Time: 1 action
Range/Area: 5m radius
Components: Verbal, Material
Materials: Rune of the Storm
Duration: As long as concentration lasts
Summons a storm around you that buffest all within with violent winds, lashing rain and lightning. The rune obscures the area, reducing the sight of all within to 2m. Those affected by the storm must make a STR saving throw or be knocked 3m in a random direction and take 4d8 magic damage.

Rune of Spirits

3-level Enchantment

Casting Time: 1 action
Range/Area: 5m radius

Materials: Rune of Spirits
Duration: As long as concentration lasts
The spirits of any who fall or die (creature must have a spirit) within this aura are dragged back as ephemeral ghosts (only afflicted by magic damage) and forced to fight for the runecaller until their spirit has sustained the damage of their max health in life. If this happens their spirit is destroyed and they can never again be summoned to battle, returned to life (resurrected) or communed through any form of spirit communication. If dead allies are caught within this rune they will fight on willingly, however, if enemies are being controlled they will fight against the chains of their oppressor and for each hostile spirit under control the runecaller will take 2 damage at the end of their turn.
