The world stood on a razors edge and teetered over the abyss. Destruction seeped through the world as devils and demons poured from the planar gate, opened through great magics turned treacherous. The unstoppable hordes sought to remake hell upon the mortal realm, devouring life and souls as they went. Only the combined might of all the mortal races managed to push back the tide. Years of fighting and millions of deaths brought the united armies of Famala, at last to the great gate. The once majestic city of Halon had been despoiled and corrupted beyond comprehension. Those that pass through felt the weight of death and pain like a chain around their necks. Many of those stalwart soldiers, were driven mad just breathing the saturated air, on their final approach. At last the gate loomed before them and the most foul servants of all the realms awaited the mortal armies. The battle would be the last of the great war and fates worse than death greeted those that fell that day. The gods emerged from the upper plane in the last hours, possessing champions of light to fight the great lords of death and destruction who watched over the gate. While the titanic battle shook the world, a score of great wizards and sorcerers reached the foot of the gate and through the use of powerful artefacts managed to collapse the portal, halting the flood of monsters once and for all. The silence that followed was deafening as if the world stopped spinning for just a moment and the gods, both of heaven and hell drew their last breath. The next sound shattered the world as the explosion of magics tore Venya asunder. The gate and its magics detonated like an eruption, dragging the land beneath into the ocean. All within a hundred kilometres were vaporised in the initial blast that triggered great tsunamis and volcanic eruptions around the world. A full half of the continent sank below the sea as did the souls of those who had given everything to save the world, but the destruction was not contained to the mortal world. Those worlds that stood so close now, Fey, Shadowfell, Heavens and Hell shattered outwards from the bridge that had been crafted with such good intentions. The gods on the mortal plane were shredded and sent back to their realms, unable to rematerialize for thousands of years, waiting for their essences to coalesce once again into their original form, leaving those on the mortal plane absent of light and dark gods. The other planes were in disarray as uncontrolled magic fragmented and flowed through them.
