Eldrick Orren Lightbringer

Lightbringer, Vid-Cleric

On his first morning as Head Lightbringer, Eldrick's grey, near-blue eyes carefully watched his confreres. He had noticed a change– an abundance of changes, actually, since the news had arrived exactly a month ago. He had hardly even mentioned the position, let alone asked to be promoted, but the Supreme Light must have taken notice of him and his hard work for on the 1st of Obil'han it was announced by one of His numerous assistants that 'one Eldrick Orren Lightbringer, a worthy Cleric in the many bright eyes of the Supreme Light and the Light Themselves' was to 'ascend' to the highest seat of the Wuchun-Ray. Orren was practically the last one to find out.   Since then the people who had previously looked down upon him or had been unkind had become, well, subtler about it. Eldrick admitted in his journals that though people had suddenly begun to do all sorts of 'kindnesses' for him, some had also retained the habit of speaking hatefully behind his back or observing with a sour taste in their mouths his charcoal-coloured skin, his white hair, or the way he carried his white parasol most everywhere. He decided to do his best to ignore it, as he always had. Now was the time to focus on his duties, which would soon enough be plentiful.

  • Early History

Born and raised in the underground half of MabrumLoricatum, Eldrick grew up in two worlds. While technically the same city, the two Mabrums can be quite different and are generally marked by who lives in them; the Wood Elven half or Re'sag, meaning 'red-curtain', is found above, in the northern, red-leafed canopies of the Rembremust forest. Directly below them is the Drow half, the Abskdom, a mix of hidden and home. His home was, in a sense, between the two cities. He had friends from either, cousins and aunts and uncles in both. He spent time in both and learned early that not all are blinded by the strong summer sunlight rays. And though it had been uncomfortable he enjoyed sitting by a tree, a large shadow and a straw hat shielding him best they can. His religious dedication, however, didn't come into existence until the middle of his first century. Mabrum had many religions established within its confines throughout the years, including Mielikki, Devana, Fari, and many others, but none had truly touched Eldrick. He had worshiped these gods, as needed, but not devoutly, not with his heart. It wasn't until he had travelled to Muntinectum that he had discovered the deity known as @Vid, a loving, caring god and goddess of light, of Moons, and of the Sun. Their temples enchanted him, their beliefs, their clerics, who had smiled at him as he passed them by. Decades later he had returned, becoming a devout worshiper and eventual Cleric, rising through the ranks while maintaining contact with his family and friends back home. He also discovered much art and literature and magics within Muntinectum and, later, in Alturum, too, and had often attended classes in their numerous academies and universities. He exposed himself to sunlight and moonlight as much as he could, meaning to somehow improve his resistance to the first, and to pray and love in both. Often, too, it was a religious matter, a ceremony of importance. He spent years on and off within the temples, learning, until he had moved to Wuchun, and spent the next century there, building a reputation and a life for himself, before gaining the title of High Lightbringer.
A sketch of one of Eldrick's parasols, made of wood and covered by silk and cloth. The wood came from an Apresian dark oak, the silk is green and thought to have originated from Que'ejas, decorating the top and the handle, while the cloth was white and probably came from Mortade.
Lightbringer is both a title and a last name within the Church of Sevid-Vida, meant to mark its bearer as a person of high standing and importance within the religious organisation. Eldrick Orren gained this privilege somewhere in his third century and has only held the position of the Head Lightbringer of Wuchun for circa five years.
