Lightbringer
Those Who Shed Light
Your Light, might we have a word?Lightbringers are members of the Vid clergy who are, most often, entrusted with the oversight of important religious and sometimes political institutions. In the hierchy of The Church of Vid, those who carry the title of Lightbringer also carry great responsibilities and are most often heads of important departments or churches.
On Those Who Bear the Title
The term Lightbringer is first recorded as referring to the underlings of Vid Themselves. Its first use in the way we know it, however, is found in a text from 1253 ADK.
Eldrick Orren Lightbringer, the head of the Wuchun-Morios Glasschurch, is one such individual and the latest of them, having earned the title a bit over 20 years ago, in 3755 ADK. As part of his duties, he takes care of the church, the clergy which are his charges, and those who attend the Church, as well as any passing believer. He also acts as a representative of the Church, thus being able to negotiate deals with other organisations but being unable to officially agree to anything without the approval of the High Lightbringers. This is typical of this role, though other duties and privileges might be included depending on the exact person and location.
High Lightbringers, as implied, are a step above a regular Lightbringer, and are a religious council which deals with the numerous affairs of the Vidian Church, from locating and punishing users of divination magics to holy texts and decrees to even the matters of the theocratic state of Floren, the holy land and thus the headquarters of the Church.
Finally, there is the Supreme Lightbringer, chosen based on a complicated set of characteristics and meant to represent the Church as a whole. The member must be politically devoid of connections and have no alliances with any specific nation or state.
