Fetchling

Fetchlings are a unique race of human-looking beings from the Plane of Shadow. They have monochrome complexions, glowing eyes, and cast supernatural shadows.   Two decades ago, the fundamental fabric of shadow magic in their realm began to unravel in the Plane of Shadow. This catastrophe caused the destruction of structures, life-sustaining essences, and magic itself. It was called the Shadowfade. Spells and abilities that once sustained and protected the Fetchlings became unpredictable and dangerous. Fearing the loss of their very essence, they sought refuge in a more stable plane. Several thousand of then used the last of their magic to flee to Verenn. They have done their best to thrive and grow, but it has been an uphill climb to be accepted in some of the more established cultures.   Fetchlings tend to either work in the shadows with sketchy organizations or work tirelessly to help their community to overcome the stereotype of their brethren.   Fetchlings only have a single name, such as Hemlock. A name can only be used by someone else in the community once the original owner of the name passes away.
Elves view them as unnatural beings who are best not to be dealt with if possible.   Dwarves find fetchlings "handy in a pinch" when dealing with dangerous work down the deeps.   Gnomes view them with general curiosity; always perplexed by their nature yet intrigued.   Halflings have strangely always been the most accepting of the fetchlings.   Humans have accepted the shadow race more or less.
