    Rise of the First Kingdoms

Once the tribes of mankind grew into their first kingdom, the Chelloran Age had begun. The people on the west of Verenn created the kingdom of Thieanor just as the eastern kingdom of Essanae developed.   Laws, the beginning of cultural, and growth in technology and magic all started here.

    The Chellor Sovereignty

The rising kingdoms of Decarith, Palacia, and Rescellon in the north join with Thienor and Essanae to become the Chellor Sovereignty. This coalition of nations thrives unlike any other period in Verenn's history. The powers of magic continue to grow and the mankind flourishes.

    The Awakening

Soon after the Chellor Sovereignty was founded, a great cascade of magical learning flourished across Verenn. Powerful universities trained wizards and sorcerers in new ways of spellcraft unseen before. With this knowledge, some sorcerers in Rescellon breached the realm of death, Illestelle, and brought the unliving forces of magic to Verenn.   The dead began to rise up, unliving creatures from Illestelle were brought to Verenn, and powerful necromancers gained power. This time was later called The Awakening and was the beginning of death magic and the undead in this world.

    Blood of the Dragons

With the rise of magic throughout the Chellor Sovereignty, the power awoke great serpents scattered in their lairs throughout Verenn. These dragons, both great and small, held their first and only dragon council at the highest peak of the Storm Range. There, they quickly decided that mankind was not meant to wield such magical power.   The dragons began an all out war against the Chellor Sovereignty, led by the most relentless of the serpents, a white dragon named Char Ice. The white dragon waged a war against all five kingdoms and brought Thieanor to its knees.

    Scordrennar & the Five Kings

One of the saddest tragedies in history is the betrayal by Scordrennar.   The greatest hero of strength and spirit, given incredible magical power to defeat the dragons...turned his gaze inwards at the Chellor Sovereignty.   Perhaps it was lust for power or corruption from the magic; Scordrennar turned his incredible power against the Five Kings of the sovereignty he had protected with his life until then.   Armies fell to his strength and the Five Kings could do nothing to stop him.

    The Scourge

As Scordrennar drew ever closer to destroying the Chellor Sovereignty, the Five Kings grew desperate. They turned to the Trinal of wizards and pleaded with them to undo the great power they gave Scordrennar...at any cost.   The Trinal gathered all their power to bear and cracked the connection between Verenn and the planes beyond that fueled magic throughout the realm. A massive tear opened up in the skies, devastating forests and mountains for miles. Many wizards throughout the world died from the powerful reverberations blasting across Verenn.   When all was said and done, Scordrennar was broken and banished. He was sent to a realm of dark dreams and give the name Silent One. But there was another loss. The world of Verenn lost its great magic. Now the forces of magic spiraled chaotically through the world, but never again would Verenn see the power and strength of magic as it had known before The Scourge.   While the Five Kings triumphed over Scordrennar, with the destruction of their magical wizards, the kingdoms struggled to retain control. The Scourge was the beginning of the end, as the lineage of the Five Kings fought to retain control and even fought amongst themselves.   Nothing was the same after The Scourge. It did not take long before the kingdom of Thieanor fell apart and devolved back into isolated towns and warring clans. The kingdom of Essanae splintered and fought a new challenge, orc warbands and armies rising in the west. Essanae lasted a few hundred years before falling and leaving behind a dry wasteland ruled by orcs.

    The End of the Sovereignty

After 900 years, the smaller northern kingdoms were the last bastion of civilization. Most traces of Chellor faded into obscurity. The power, the magic, the culture, and even the gods were taken away or abandoned. The kingdoms held to the names and territory, but they were shadows of their former selves. The majority of Verenn was simply called the Wildlands and any traces of the former kingdoms there were broken ruins.

    The God King

A powerful and wise young man named Osgarin quickly gained power in Palacia. His rise was fueled by prosperity he brought to the kingdom and a deep holy strength he had within himself.   While Verenn was viewed as a vast wilderness, Palacia grew in strength and majesty under Osgarin's rule. He became so revered for his holy power and agelessness that he became a god king, followed, loved, and feared by his people.   The God King Osgarin would change Verenn like no other.

    Light in the Wiilderness

Once the Bysren Empire had grown and flourished, Osgarin sent many resources south, east, and west into the wilds of Verenn. He wanted to see what was left of the old kingdoms, some day to help others say to add to his empire.   He found several city-states, all that remained of kingdoms lost centuries ago. These cities were all that was left in the darkness, surrounded by dangers and terrible creatures. The Bysren Empire continued to help these remote locations as best they could, helping create much later the foundations of Navarre, Iveron, Calaviaire, and Paradeeve.

    Necromancers of Rescellon

Wizards in Rescellon opened up old tomes and found ancient Chelloran artifacts giving them incredible power over the dead. This power corrupted without fail, and the necromancers of Rescellon were born.   The dead rose up in droves, and the necromancers took control over the Rescellon region. It's neighbors turned in horror, as this dark threat poised to strike even deeper into the Empire.

    Necromancers War

Necromancers from Rescellon turned their undead armies against the Bysren Empire and the free races. Many lives were lost and cities fell. Civilization in Verenn yet again faced extinction.   Osgarin created the three Arch Sentinels to protect the Empire. Great heroes rose up to defend against the dead. These heroes became legends, and their legends became the foundation of a new pantheon of gods many years later.

  • 1794 BA

    Final Light

The undead armies brought down the armies of man and destroyed Palacia. Decarith was broken and turned into a swamp of misery and disease.   With what little strength he had left, the God King Osgarin met the necromancers in the middle of the wilds of Verenn and had a final battle to save Verenn. The battle cost Osgarin his life, but with the final light of his power, he destroyed the conduits of death connecting to this world and dealt the necromancers a crippling blow.   The Bysren Empire was destroyed, but Verenn would live on.

  • 1833 BA

    Northern Wastes

The last of the necromancers was slain by the few remaining souls left to defend the world. The undead still filled the ruins of the Bysren Empire, but they were aimless and unguided.   The remaining survivors of the Empire fled south into the wilds of Verenn. They connected with the few city-states scattered across the world as the only safe havens.   Legends of the heroes who fought against the necromancers carried on, and in time, they were revered and worshiped. The spirits of these heroes, Kerahell, Keth, Soleen, and more were elevated to godhood in the next era.
