Felwinter

""

Felwinter is the capital city of The Veridian Empire. It is situated in the upper north part of the Veridian Continent along the Cobalt River. It is the largest city in Veridia as a whole, both in terms of population and size. With it comes the price of a hefty social divide and powerful underground elements. Despite this, the city has been a hub for merchants and a beacon for travelers. Felwinter soon grew into the thriving and diverse gem of the entire realm of Veridia it is today.

Demographics

The population is a majority human but many other races live in the city, namely Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, and others.

Government

Felwinter is the seat of power of the Veridian Empire and is governed directly by the High King.

Industry & Trade

Felwinter's location on the Cobalt River near where it flows into open ocean provides a very profitable trade location. This point allows Felwinter to be the link between the other continents and the rest of the Veridian Continent.

Guilds and Factions

Felwinter contains its fair share of factions, both professional and illegal. Aside from the local government of the Empire, Felwinter is also home to the Tensor League, a collective of mages from around the world. The Felwinter underground is a constant cold war between four factions of shady organizations, each led by their own boss.

History

The city of Felwinter has existed for millennia, though it was not always known as Felwinter. Much of the records of the city's past were destroyed in the calamity of the Dragon War that ushered in the Fantastical Era. The city was ravaged by the Scaled Tyrant and Queen of Chromatic Dragons, Tiamat, who made the ruined city her throne. It was not until Lord Felwinter, who was the ruler of the city before it fell to the dragons, and heroic volunteers from the neighboring city-states, brought the fight to the Queen of Dragons. Lord Felwinter, armed with his holy bow and the strength of Pelor, distracted the dragon god for long enough for powerful mages to cast a banishment ritual, forever shunting the Scaled Tyrant away into the depths of Hell. Sadly, Lord Felwinter did not survive, yet his deeds were immortalized as the newly reconstructed city was renamed after him and his legacy.   After the Dragon War, the region was divided up into independent city states, Felwinter becoming one of them. It wouldn't be for a few more centuries until the city-states who fought together formed an alliance. Felwinter became the center of trade and diplomacy between the city-states. It also became the center for the alliance's military which was sent out to conquer the neighboring barbaric and rival states, eventually uniting all of them and forming the Veridian Empire, with Felwinter as its capital.   The city has since sustained its share of wars and invasions and rebellious plots but still stands as the crown jewel of the Empire - a testament to its strength and resilience.
