Lieutenant Samantha Wesley (a.k.a. Wes)
Arguably one of the best fighters and commander in the Veridian Empire, Lieutenant Wes fights for what she thinks is right. She is sworn to fight for the Empire. She is also unique in that she can empower herself with the element of fire in a way that is not arcane or divine. This rare ability is possessed by a group of powerful individuals known as Vanguards and each of them can control a different element.

Personal history
Born in a small village to the east, Wes's parents were brutally killed when the Kvian Vikings raided her home and Wes herself was almost killed as her home burned around her. While unconscious, she had a strange vision - most of the details being lost to her - and eventually awoke in a hospital in the city of Felwinter. She was taking in and raised by a noble family in the city. Military was always a center point in her new life. Her father and her two older brothers were both enlisted in the Empire's army by the time Wes was old enough to join. Wes was surprisingly good compared to the other recruits and she very quickly rose in the ranks, even surpassing one of her brothers.
One day, she discovered that she had obtained some sort of special power by some unknown means. This power allows her to harness the power of the element of fire by means other than arcane or divine. She became part of a society of special people known as Vanguards, all of which are able to harness the power of a certain element. Wes believes this is connected to the vision she had years ago.
By the age of 28, she attained the rank of paladin (not the religious paladins), being one of the youngest to do so in the history of the empire. She and her legion fended off a viking raid against Felwinter, the same vikings who destroyed her home. However, she met her match - Warchief Brodir - the same viking who invaded her home and killed her people. In their battle, Wes scarred Brodir but he gravely wounded Wes. Wes declared him as her nemesis and vowed to defeat him if he showed up again. In her second year as a paladin, the Haagstad Pact seceded from the empire and almost entered a civil war with the Empire. Wes had no choice but to lead an army and did so with an iron fist. Wes became as intimidating as she is skilled.
Wes was in command of a defense team when two of the four heroes found her and told her about the dragon crisis five years ago. She joined the two as they searched for rebels and dragons. She recently was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, after the threat of civil war and dragons died down and she has remained ever vigilant. Wes was put in command of the 2nd Defense Legion of the Empire and is tasked with fending off an incoming Alvarian invasion during the war.
