The Oligarchic States of Asaria
In the southwestern regions of Veridia lies a cluster of city states known collectively as the Oligarchic States of Asaria. As its name implies, this faction is based out of the trading hub of Asaria and encompasses the settlements that share the Osmad Gulf. Each settlement is mostly independent, but they all rely on Asaria's flow of wealth and goods to prosper, and so a central government for all was needed - one that encourages free trade amongst its members.
History
Asaria was the first nation to claim the rich land and sea of the southwestern region of Veridia. As it expanded, its people spread throughout the Osmad Gulf, forming their own societies and traditions. Once Asaria began to get noticed as a player in the world stage, these settlements were quick to try and capitalize on Asaria's success and wealth. The Daoshi of Asaria drafted a contract (as they are quite known for) which allowed the settlements representation in their government, tariff-free trade with Asaria and the other settlements, and the support of its military in exchange for a tribute of the settlements' resources. This was known as the Lunar Covenant, supposedly authorized by the Daoshi under the light of the full moon. The Covenant declared all who signed to be part of Asaria's Oligarchy, thus becoming known as the Oligarchic States of Asaria. The scattered settlements and states of the Osmad Gulf were brought together as they once were.
Not all settlements agreed on this at first - one settlement known as Yanobe wished to remain independent under the rule of their Shogun. They went so far as to disrupt the trade routes passing through the Osmad Gulf. This resulted in a swift and decisive retribution against the Yanobe Shogunate, and they were subjugated into the Oligarchy. Though a few decades have passed, many from Yanobe bear hatred against Asaria and its people and one day seek to reclaim their lost honor.
