Introduction
A storied land of knights and monsters, the Grand Empire of Syrese boasts of its long history as the first civilization on Verindar. The continent itself, Leyendell, is large and has a long history, and the human-dominated Empire of Syrese now calls it home. And although its denizens are considered pompous and full of themselves by many outside the Empire, there is some grain of truth to the stories; Leyendell is home to many strange monsters and mystical secrets, and The Grand Empire of Syrese reaps the benefits of such occurrences. It makes for a nation rich with magical artifacts and historical accounts.
Government
The Grand Empire of Syrese is led by Her Graciousness, the Grand Empress, an all-powerful female ruler who ascends to the throne as part of a hereditary line. Currently, Syrese is ruled by Empress Cyprid IX, daughter of the most powerful and longstanding family of empress candidates in the history of Syrese. The rule of the Cyprid family is well-entrenched and has carried on many of the traditions that now guide the Empire. Empress Cyprid IX is as traditional as the rest of the family and seeks to uphold the honor of her kin and expand the Empire beyond the reaches of Leyendell, a sentiment which many of her citizens share. However, the Empire has implemented its own systems of checks and balances, and should the people voice enough of their dissatisfaction, or if the current family does not have any capable daughters, the title of Empress may pass to another family, all of which are known as empress candidates.
Currently, there are two other empress candidates, Epiphia and Orchidia. Orchidia has been around almost as long as Cyprid, while Epiphia has only recently come into power. Orchidia remains steadfast in its place, but does not seem to be on the rise in popularity. However, Epiphia has rapidly gained popularity, and many citizens dissatisfied with Cyprid rule have called for a change in Empress. Such is the discord between the two sides, with Epiphia calling for change, Cyprid blocking all attempts at it, and Orchidia attempting to remain neutral, that civil war now threatens to tear the Empire apart.
