Drazanokþor (Drah-zah-noke-thor)

"Dragons of the Northern Pole"

Written by UmbralGoat

The Dragons of Nokþor are some of the strangest draconic beings known to the Fælen. They live in one of the harshest climates on Vernelis, a frozen hellscape completely uninhabitable by any mortal being.

Anatomy

Drazanokþor are rather small, even for the standards of Modern Dragons, with piercing white scales covering the whole of their body. Across their chests, arms, and spines is thick, dark fur, meant to absorb as much heat as possible. Their scales are decorated with light blue patterns, meant to help with camoflauge within the icy environments. They have large ears and short muzzles, but several large, razor-sharp teeth.

Mentality

Despite the landscape in which they inhabit, Drazanokþor have been observed to be rather docile towards creatures that rival them in size, even traveling Faelen. Smaller creatures that exist below them, however, are not so lucky.

Like other Dragons, they are also considerably intelligent; some have been observed storing leftover meals they've caught in secluded areas in snow and ice to preserve it for a later hunger, especially if they do not catch any more.

Sensory Perception

Their hunting habits suggest they have incredibly acute eyesight and hearing; they can find prey even in the strongest of the Tempest Nights, able to see through miles of lightning-filled darkness and hear footsteps through the roars of 90+ km/h winds. This puts them atop the foodchain of the North, much like Dragons of other regions.

Domain

Like all Dragons, they are very territorial; they will often claim small islands all to themselves and fight off others that are wandering close or try to steal their food. They make their homes in low caves, usually under cliffsides or in the sides of small, rocky mountains.

XII

  Geographic Distribution
These dragons, by their name, are only found in the Northern-most regions of the world.
Conservation
Like most dragons, any attempt at hunting them is strictly forbidden. Even those who do try to hunt dragons usually don't dare to hunt these, as their habitat is too dangerous to traverse.
Ancestry
The Northern dragons are thought to be descendants of the Mountainous Ancients, slowly becoming acclimated to the harsh climate and even remaining there after the raising of the islands.
