Graintown

A fresh new slum, found on the very outskirts of Olziir. Graintown refers to a large cluster of buildings found outside of the first wall. It is entirely unprotected and exposed to the outside world, and while guards are stationed to the slum to watch, they are typically either volunteers or far and few between. Graintown was built as a place to hold those considered 'lesser' to the elite; true to its name, 'Grains' or 'Slaves' live within Olziir.

Demographics

This section of Olziir is filled with slaves, seedy characters, and other unsavory things. The less-fortunate find themselves living in the old, box-like homes, with only the bare necessities available to them.

Defences

Graintown's defenses are left in the hands of volunteers. There are small stations dedicated to these services, and they do provide ample training, but it's typically very weak compared to professional fighters.

Infrastructure

Graintown does have functional sewers, which frequently stink and only further add to the foulness of wandering through this particular stretch of the city.

Assets

Red Rook: An old apothecary found in Graintown. The building is easily one of the better off buildings in the city, as it is ran by an ex-smuggler. The apothecary provides decent health care and is funded through community donations moreso than actual payment; for the owner constructed the establishment in hopes of catering towards the health of the less-fortunate.   Drowned Regrets: A seedy inn that once served as a place for pirates and vagabonds to lie low. Its owner, Krev, isn't the greatest entrepreneur and has thus left the inn in a rather sorry state. The drink there is rather unpleasant.   'Stew & Mash Shops : A common part of grain and poor sub-culture is stew and mash shops; they're tiny, simple establishments that prepare food for the poor. Stews are left boiling for days with stock and broth prepared from whatever the community happens to have found. Mash is created by simply pulverizing dried meats and other products and rendering them together with fat, creating a highly nutritious loaf that can be carried and used at all times.

Guilds and Factions

The Sunseekers: An organization of lower-class members whom worship Amelia. The Sunseekers are known for being a somewhat strange sect of the faith and are generally treated as a separate religion to the traditional worship. It is lead by Parvin Grain.

History

A relatively new formation of Olziir, Graintown initially began when the first few slave houses were made. These homes, though modest and small, provided basic living foundation and allowed for the slaves to live with families when not being placed into servitude. While the homes are squalid and far from perfect, many slaves will often agree that Graintown is the best place that any slave could possibly hope to live in.

Architecture

Crude sandstone is used to build most of the lodgings; all are pretty much simple box shaped rooms that provide a bed and rooftop for food, often called 'Grain Boxes'.

Geography

Most of Graintown is built out in the desert, with a few more huts extending into the palm forests.
