The Crusades
The Conflict
Prelude
During the very end of the Cruel Age, humanity grew jealous of the longevity -- and in some cases, immortality of the Elven people. Seeking to remedy this, the human kings of the time all demanded the secrets to this long life from them. While many Elves had lost their immortality due to their breaking off from Zzath, the Elves of Mordencrast still carried sects that served the Broken God. These Elves agreed to grant immortality; however, the Kings were wholly unaware of the price that must be paid in exchange for eternal life. They would forever be cursed to feed upon the life of others in order to prolong their own, and so happened the first human vampires. Initially, the three Kings were willing to accept this price. However, when The Blood Curse began to ravage Tregaron shortly after, Vampires were limited in resources. This lead to many vampires growing feral or desperate, and The Faith Keepers catching wind of their antics. Coupled with peasantry and humans being kidnapped and used as cattle to feed their despotic kings, revolutions sparked across Tregaron, until the Torman and Villish people united in a single unit seeking to blame the cause of the vampiric curse.
Aftermath
Sylvanus
During the war, an Elven magus named Sylvanus attempted to gather as many Elves as she could to smuggle through Mordencrast and into the Vank Kingdom. At the time, the Vanks didn't participate in the war, but Queen Morigan offered them safety. This later lead to the Church kidnapping Morigan and Sylvanus both. Sylvanus was executed, which lead to her martyrdom; the Elven people see her as a hero that was willing to step behind enemy lines to rescue as many of her people from the Church as she could. Similarly, Morigan is often revered as both an ally and a hero to the Elven people for granting safety to them in the face of the Church's crimes.Elven & Human Sentiments
The Elves view humans as savage brutes; particularly the Villish and Torman people. The exception to this rule is the Vanks, but many Elves, after having seen the atrocities committed in the name of Aine, view all humans as criminals and murderers. The Humans still carry their own anti-Elven sentiments as well, believing them to be the sole reason for the Villish and Torman monarchies to fall -- and the Vanks to have been corrupted with a vampiric ruler despite many Vanks believing their vampiric King to be a hero. Vanks and Elves still remain amicable enough all the same.Scattering of the Elves
Due to the slaughter committed upon the Elven people, they were forced to flee across the world, scattering in droves. Many went to the Chain of Fire and eventually lead to the finding of the Elven city state of Valonde, however, many more fled even further, westward and in search of a new home. In a twist of fate, Elves also later fled to Llyne City as well, if only because the The Pit grew much more welcoming towards adventurers as they continued to flock into the once Church-ran city.Remove these ads.
