Wishing Trees
Wishing Trees are a common form of worship for Inari. These altars can be found on just about every isle within Veska; even Tregaron and Llyne; both places that are predominantely human, are known to hold Wishing Trees made in hopes of earning Inari's favor.
Wishing Trees are simply trees that have been decorated with specially prepared talismans to ward off negative sprites. These talismans, called ofuda, are instrumental in consecrating the tree from potentially corrupting influence. While the Fae are powerful creatures, the slightest schism or negative action can create twisted Yokai.
Cornerstones of Faith
Wishing Trees made in Inari's name are often used as the central cornerstone of her shrines; though temples and churches to her are much more rare than a humble Wishing Tree, they serve as an important center towards her worship. Travelers that are passing by Wishing Trees are encouraged to write their wish upon a piece of paper, fold it into origami, and leave it at the roots of the tree. These paper wishes are also often granted alongside offerings; typically wine, spirits, or food granted to Inari as a gift. It's said that giving a proper gift to Inari will bestow good luck to those that have left her an acceptable gift.Landmarks
Wishing Trees are often erected to serve as landmarks for travelers and adventurers. It's considered a common courtesy to either leave a small token at these landmarks in thanks to both Inari and the person that sanctified the tree in question, but just a humble thanks is the only requirement for travelers passing by. To deny a Wishing Tree thanks is said to draw in Inari's mischievous spite. Similarly, stealing from a Wishing Tree is a terrible omen; far be it for Inari to be wrathful, but she views this theft as a means of purchasing one of her gifts. The price? A misfortune to bear in exchange for the theft.
