Yokai

Yokai, or Daemons as humans refer to them, are a sub-species of malevolent Fae that are born from the malicious parts of the world. Fae, who are normally left as impressionable sprites at the beginning of their creation process, are sensitive creatures that can quickly become a victim of corruption. When too much misdeeds happen around these sprites, like a learning child, it will learn from its environment and continue to perpetuate what created it.
These corrupted Fae, called Yokai, are seen as nefarious creatures with mischievous intent.

The Otherworld

There are two layers to reality; Veska, and The Otherworld; a place where sprites are free to remain invisible to the naked eye whilst they grow in a realm parallel to Veska's reality. This realm is the home of Fae and Yokai, but Yokai are typically banished and left bound to the Otherworld by the Fae in order to keep them from interfering with the natural world around them. 
Despite that, Yokai often find the ability to arrive into the mortal realm. These violent manifestations come in the form of dangerous possessions that take advantage of people who are feeling certain emotions, twisting their bodies into the likeness of the Yokai that possessed them.
