Juxis

Juxis (JOOK-suhs) was the Proto-Ascendant god of magical creation, specifically that of magical flora and fauna. Believed to have created such amalgams of man and beast as the satyr, minotaur, centaur, sphinx, and more, he often finds worshipers among cultures based around animal totems.

Description

Juxis is often portrayed as one of the many races he is credited for creating, however, even in his most human depictions he has some aspect of flora or fauna about him such as antlers or bark-like skin.   During Starfall, Juxis fell to a mortal form yet to be recorded.

Relationships

Juxis is distant from most of the other gods; however he is described as a disciple of Perkunas and a partner of Quin.

Worshipers

Prior to Starfall, the majority of Juxis’s worshipers lived among the people of Ajimbatt. However, worship of Juxis, as The Architect of Life, can be found amongst cultures who blur the line between man and beast, literally and metaphorically. Within Gnomish cultures, Juxis is described as, ”The Tinkerer,” and has domains that extend into alchemy, potion making, and magical innovations, especially in The Ishtar Consortium.

Clergy

Juxis’s clergy are known as Architects of the Forest and often wear the colors of nature, brown and green, sometimes accented with purple. While many of his faithful worship in small cloisters or independently, they have been known to also provide magical services within their communities, most often as potion makers and alchemists.   Some of the Forest Architects direct their faith internally, tapping into instinct and more feral attitudes to commune with “the beast within.” They often take on traits of a totem animal, with some entering a primal trance in combat to demonstrate their ferocity.

Temples

Each temple built by the Architects of the Forest is unique to the area it is in. Utilizing magic and nature, the temples are amalgams of what this partnership can accomplish such as native bioluminescent algae utilized for soft lighting. What they all do share is a unique space where care, and sometimes experimentation, can be provided for the various creatures within the region. The exact locations of these temples, and more commonly, shrines, are often found in places of intense chaotic magic.

Dogma

On a surface level, Juxis’s dogma is to be malleable, accepting, and curious. Worshipers believe:
  • Creation is ongoing, blending what is with what could be. Explore and experiment with nature’s vast potential.
  • Embrace the primal in oneself and respect the beastly essence of others, coexist between different forms of life.
  • Innovate. Take Risks. Make Mistakes. Evolution is Trial and Error.
Despite the chaotic aspects of these beliefs, followers are encouraged to minimize harm, respect the natural order, and to coexist. While failure is not encouraged, Architects of the Forest are expected to learn from both victories and failures, finding strength in change.

Rites

Worship of Juxis often comes with an annual pilgrimage to a shrine to indulge in magic. The most common of rituals, at that time, is “The Wild Communion,” said to allow followers to commune with the beast within. Participants enter primal trances, embodying their totemic animals, and tap into Juxis’s creative energy. It is a moment to honor instincts and feral nature and is often expressed through dance, howling, and/or combat displays.   Smaller rituals include crafting a Potion of the Green Heart, made from rare flora, that is consumed among those gathered as an offering to Juxis. In return, worshipers are granted inspiring visions or insights that are then shared among the group.

Relics

  • The Bestia Magisteria is a large ornately carved cube. On each side is the image of a different animal (wolf, bear, stag, owl, cat, and crocodile). It is said that if you capture the heart of each of these animals while possessing this cube, Juxis will grant you a boon. Thousands of beasts have been slain in the attempt to gain this favor, but none have obtained it.
