Talons of the Ivory Claw

The Claws of the Ivory Talon are a group of divided nomadic travellers. The clans once lived in harmony among the coasts and islands around Exol. Today, they are known as Clans Osprey, Vulture, Petrel, Cassowary, and Harpy.    The clans were once one culture. Born in the tropical city of Ankarii, the Claws of the Ivory Talon were worshippers of a goddess known as Avariel. As faithful worshippers, their city became a sanctuary for those seeking relogious freedom. Following the first of many wars in the Draconic Kingdoms, Ankarii saw an influx of refugees, many of whom would come to adopt the ways of Avariel.   As time went on, the people of Ankarii began to expand to neighboring isles. They managed to remain neutral from the conflict in the mainland. But when The Burning Dawn used their lands as a staging point for the war with the kingdoms, the people were divided. As such, a difference in their religious teachings formed 5 seperate clans. Each clan began to teach different versions of Avariel's story and code.    Clan Osprey believed her to be strong and steadfast, taking on dangerous foes. They remain in Ankarii to this day. Clan Vulture, which headed to the mainland, shared stories of Avariel as a generous figure. They believe in surviving only on what is left behind.   Clan Cassowary formed in the jungle islands south of Ankarii. There, they learned to protect the natural way. Their version of Avariel was gentle but stern.   Clan Harpy and Clan Petrel taught more twisted versions of Avariel's myth. Clan Petrel taught pupils to take advantage of weakness, while Clan Harpy spread tales of the horrors of the world. They taught pupils to be both fearful and willing to create fear in others.   Today, the clans remain mostly seperate. However, each one believes they have equal claim to Ankarii as their soverign land. Efforts sometimes are made to take it back.
Avariel is said to be a feminine goddess with an avian form. A clawed foot is often used as a symbol.
