Rain Marsille

Rain Alcara Marsille (a.k.a. Riposte)

Rain Alcara Marsille is the younger sister of Ravin Marsille , and an accomplished songstress in her own right. A purposefully alluring character, she spends most of her days and nights in the burlesque bars of the Twilight Strip, stealing hearts and tips with a jaw-dropping smile and a bewitching song.   Unknown to most, Rain is also a graduated student and assassin affiliated with the Endless Serenade, having been trained by them in the art of assassination. She is considered the contemporary of fabled actress Rachel Belfour , before the latter's quiet but astonishingly quick ascension to the Throne.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Rain is in good physical condition, emphasizing her body's traits instead of focusing on keeping herself combat ready. However, she is still capable of holding out on her own in a pitched situation.

Personal history

"Brother dearest had it all figured out in that wonderfully sculpted mind of his. As for little ol' me? I preferred my freedom - to tease and have whoever I wanted. And tonight, what I want is you."
  • Rain discussing her choice of lifestyle with a target, shortly before carrying out the kill
  • Rain is the younger of the Marsille siblings, born to industrious parents Melvin and Janice Marsille in 1865.   In her growing years, it was quite clear that she took to the arts while her older brother took to the side of business. Despite their differing tastes and interests, Ravin was close to his sister, and kept her secrets hidden with him, including all of her trysts and flings. Despite spending most of her time chasing after boys (and men), she kept up her studies, and even took the time to adventure out into acting - one of these acting camps was where she would meet her friend Rachel, also finding herself in the world of the performing arts.   In 1881, both Rain and Rachel were scouted out for "advanced opportunities" by the Endless Serenade, whose scouting agents saw promise in both ladies as actresses... and potential assassins. Whereas Rachel was already comfortable with sparring and handling weapons, Rain required some formalized training to get up to Rachel's competence, while also trading tips on how to get Rachel to overcome her "stage fright".   Both girls were often seen together on the stage and in the underground training complexes, and both soon acquired names for themselves as powerful and complementing songstresses - Rain with her dominating and boisterous choruses, and Rachel with soft but powerful solos and bridges.
"For the longest time, I thought she failed a mission, or that a rival got a hold of her, and took her from me. Now that I see her up on that dais with his Majesty, I can start to understand just what makes her tick."
  • Rain discussing Rachel's ascension with Serenade agent Jasmine Ritz
  • In 1884, Rain and Rachel would go separate ways, as Rachel was more of a duelist than an assassin, while Rain preferred the blood money as a neat bonus to enticing lonely men to spending money on her. It was shortly after this separation that Rachel more or less disappeared, although Rain noted that Rachel's signature daggers were not added to the Obelisk that stood in the center of the underground Assassin's chamber. Briefly pondering what this meant, she concluded that Rachel found a higher calling - nevertheless, a part of Rain's heart felt empty without her friend's presence nearby.   For the next few years, now a fully graduated Songstress of the Endless Serenade, Rain moved out from the apartments that bordered the Studio, and took her talents to the Twilight Strip, where she was immediately recognized. Capitalizing on her fame that she developed during her time in the Studio, the Twilight Strip served as her "hunting grounds" - her fame, body, and personality drew men to her, like moths to an unquenchable flame.

    Gender Identity

Rain identifies firmly as a female, and prefers to present herself in such a fashion.   However, as the situation calls for it, Rain is adept at adopting male personas, as part of an act. This is most often used for getting in close to perform wetwork, particularly if such a means of subterfuge decreases the odds of detection.

    Sexuality

"She's something, alright. I've only met one or two people who could resist that smile of hers, and I know both of them already has a geas in effect to stop her. It doesn't matter who or what you are - you might as well be a snack to her."
  • A patron of the Golden Sickle, describing Rain's tendency to eat up everyone
  • Rain is considered a pansexual, having adopted a policy of no restriction as to who to pursue relations with.

    Education

Rain was a student of the Endless Serenade Studio, from 1881 to 1883. She graduated with a Certificate of Artistic Studies.

    Personality Characteristics

    Vices & Personality flaws

"Rain was... is obsessive, once something comes to her that attracts her attention for more than a week. And I've held her attention for over 9 years, my Lady."
  • Rachel Belfour, talking about Rain's obsession with people to Queen Iris Arlenia-Mitfield
  • One of Rain's worst flaws is that she is obsessive with a person once they firmly have her attention. She discards most people after getting a day or two of physical satisfaction out of them, but certain others reach into her heart, injecting feeling and compassion that she has little idea of how to properly demonstrate - she instead latches onto them, meaning well but ultimately poisoning her relationship with them over her emotional dependence.

    Hygiene

As part of her feminine allure, Rain takes extensive measures to keep herself as presentable as possible.
