Crylun Steel
Crylun steel is an alloy forged in frost furnaces, combining the raw ores of iron and crynese to form a blue toned metal with a texture that looks like frost on a window. Typically used as a replacement for steel in mountainous regions where raw crynese can be found.
The thing you got to understand about crylun is that it is difficult to get right. Sure, I'm use to forging all kinds of metals, but that's using heat. Cold forging is a completely different skill. One I canny say I've mastered but I make a good go of it.The average price is anywhere between 9-12 gold per bar in regions of where crynese is abundant. While areas which are further from the source can charge upto 20 gold coin in towns and cities. This makes it a far less common sight outside cities such as Drovvin or the kingdom of Shenaria. The process of creating crylun steel includes using a cold fire, ignited by frost flint, to melt the raw materials and then compressing the metals together under a powerful hammer to bond the metals together. Due to the lack of heat from the cold flames, the metals create a pattern in the final product that resembles cracking frost on glass. With various tints of blue and white throughout the metal, it has a distinct look compared to other metals.
Notable Uses:
- Shenaria Armour - During the 2nd kingdom war of Ascor, the Northern kingdom of Shenaria equipped their soldiers with armour made of crylun steel.
- The Chieftain's Calming Totem - A gift to given to the Chieftain of Fi-Ha that was imbued with a charm to cool down his fiery temper. Crafted from crylun steel and amythyst.
- The Frozen Heart of Raina - The chestplate worn by Raina, a warrior from another realm who lost her lover during combat. It is said the chestplate was enchanted to absorb all forms of elemental attacks but when Raina lost her love, she inadvertently placed a curse on the armour. Forcing the wearer to become overwhelmed with the sorrow and grief felt by Raina.
