Mogry

The mogries are a heterogenous species of sapients with a particular type of machine body. Born as members of other species, they first have to undergo metempsychosis in order to become mogries.
Etymology
The term mogry is shortened from "to transmogrify", meaning "to change, to alter the form", and refers both to the mogries' origin as members of other species, and to their limited shapeshifting abilities.
As reborn machine beings, mogries are a species not by ancestry, but by virtue of the technology used. They're of Abyssan origin and all technology used in the metempsychosis ritual and to build mogry bodies is of Abyssan design.   Nowadays a large number of mogries are former members of non-Abyssan species, but their origin has no impact on how they're perceived by their mogry kin.

Anatomy

Most mogries choose a body shaped similar to the one they are already used to. That's assuming they weren't entirely virtual entities beforehand, in which case they often choose a form akin to whichever species they deem most suitable.   Their shapeshifting abilities give them room for experimentation, and some mogries eventually end up with bodies very different from, or even unrecognizable to, their species of origin.   Most choose to look like the machines they are, while a few prefer smart skin. Those used to great range of facial expressions usually keep their faces covered in metal-colored skin, while much or all of their remaining body is visibly robotic.

Physiology

Mogries are made of ceramics, metals, silicone, and smart matter. Abyssan technology is highly advanced, designed to take a punishment and function even in extreme environments. That makes mogry bodies highly resistant to wear and environmental degradation.   They run on electricity generated by an internal radio-thermal generator, and will overheat if they run low on coolant. Their mobility is severely impaired if they run low on hydraulic fluid, though they're not entirely immobilized that easily.   Mogries don't need to eat, drink, or breathe, though they need rest for automated maintenance. Those of organic origin especially also need sleep for mental recovery and let maintenance run in the background during naptime.   Some mogries are able to consume food in order to better blend in with organic lifeforms, and they can mimic the effects of drugs and poisons without being affected. There are a few drugs that do work on mogries, just as they work on other species with the same kind of nervous system.   Their nervous system looks and works much like that of silicon-based species such as the voidbrood. It's similar in design to that of organic species, but made mostly of inorganic materials. Their senses vary; almost all keep their original ones, but many also add a few new ones.

Mentality

Even though it's by no means required, the vast majority of mogries revoke any affiliation to their origin species, and almost all destroy their original body.   Many never fully considered themselves members of the species they were born into, or they were fed up with their former kin's antics to the point of leaving it all behind. A combination of these two factors appears to be the most common reason.

Notable Mogries

Dreadsong

See, even voidbrood an't machine enough for my taste. But there's cyberware, aye? Mirific, give me an entire body made of that stuff. Like this one here.
Dreadsong Spirit-of-Malice
Dreadsong is a mogry from Blackreach in Abyss. Born as a voidbrood, they still look like their former kin and still consider themself part of their origin species.   They became a mogry because they wanted to be entirely machine, and their disdain for organic lifeforms is on full display every opportunity they get.

Purgatore

Purgatore by spacetrash with Heroforge
Purgatore was a wastelander from Ser South, and is one of the few mogries who still see themselves as part of their origin species.   He became a mogry soon after joining the Abyssans, as he liked the idea of having a highly fire-resistant body.   Aptly nicknamed "Pyro", he's notorious for his love of fire and explosives. He's also wanted for arson and related crimes in several polities.   Purgatore served as an Intermediary for the Witherlight Alliance, and was stationed in Winterbourne.

Sideris

Sideris by spacetrash with Heroforge
Sideris was a terran, and the founder of the Lightbearers of Razduna.   During his expedition to Nightside, he made a deal with a small sect serving Render-of-Veils.   After his death a few years later, he was reborn as a mogry, now sporting a pair of large, feathered wings.   His wings double as weapons, as he can shapeshift them into razorwings akin to those of voidbrood.
