Backstory of Cabalard Darkaven
Born in the Alsterian Empire, Cabalard was the child of a Noble & a gladiator. His mother hid in one of her family's villas until after his birth. She then, without her families knowledge, had the baby Cabelard delivered to his father in the gladiatorial arena.
Young Cabalard spent most of his youth running through the slave pits below the coliseum. He learned from all the slaves how to fight. Magic, weapons, stealth, assassination, etc. He was trained in nearly everything.
Melee, magic, arts, literature. If a gladiator new it, they would gladly share their knowledge with the popular young man.
When Cabalard reached maturity, he was propositioned by a young nobleman. He attempted to politely decline the aristocrats advance. Unfortunately for him, the spoiled brat told his retainers to capture him. After a lengthy fight Cabalard was subdued.
For the next six months or so, Cabalard was held in an underground jail cell and buggered. The nightly rape slowly changed the young man from a bright spirit into a dark, and hateful person.
One night, after his usual disgrace, a beautiful man appeared before him. The handsome man said," I am Darkaven, a god. If you choose to follow me, I will give you power beyond imagining, revenge, and fame the likes of which no one has seen before.
What do you say, youngling? Do you desire power? Revenge? Women? Fame?
"Make your decision now."
Cabalard started to respond in anger but, something he saw in the eyes of the stranger made him pause. With awe in his voice he said," Very well. If you give me revenge, I will give you souls. Give me women, souls. Power, souls... But give me Fame? I shall give you followers, power, souls. Ask and it shall be yours."
The strange man... no God, laughed and replied," Very well. For your bravery before me, you may use MY name. I dub thee Cabalard Darkaven. Eventually, you shall join me in my pantheon... if you survive."
As his final word fell, he disappeared as mysteriously as he had appeared. With his disappearance, the shackles holding Cabalard fell off, his body lost some strength, but his mind powers exploded. The minor magics he had learned in his youth were suddenly devastating.
The young man broke the door of his cell down and proceeded to massacre nearly all the people in the fort. He spared two twin sisters he found in an adjacent cell. He asked them to follow him, and after they acquiesced he taught them all he knew.
2 years later, his followers left on a mission with their two infant sons. Cabalard himself also went out to bring people into the light of Darkaven, or the dark of death.
