Tritium

Tritium, also known as Hydrogen-3, is a unstable isotope of Hydrogen, with a half-life of roughly 12 years. It exists on Vreathe in trace quantities combined with the element Oxygen in the form of Super Heavy Water, or Tritiated Water. Tritiated water can produce unbelievably powerful potions but there is a risk of radiation poisoning from consuming one of these potions. Tritium can be easily created by charging hydrogen or Deuterium with Aether. Tritium is useful because of a strange magic known as Radiation that causes objects to glow and give off heat without mana.

When charged with Mana, Tritium converts it into energy, giving it off as quickly as it was charged, which temporarily causes the object it is irradiating to glow brighter. Other than this, there is little application for charging Tritium with mana.

When charged with Aether, Tritium will become more stable, doubling its half-life or 12 years to 24 years. This also has the effect of causing objects it is irradiating to glow half as bright. This effect can be exploited on some objects, but otherwise there is no application for charging tritium with aether.

The only real use for Tritium is in filling small glass vials with the gas and covering the inside of the glass with a chemical phosphor. The radiation from the Tritium will cause the phosphor to glow. These vials can be used as a form of mana and aether detector. It will glow much brighter in the presence of mana, and it will greatly dim in the presence of aether. Filling Beryllium glass containers with Neon gas is a much more effective magic detector.
