Banishing Demons
General Summary
"See, this is why we can't be friends. It's not me, it's you." - Harold to the Archmage
End of the Fight
- The Party kicked open the door to the amplifier chamber and fought two demons, a human mage named Fredric, and the Daughter.
- The room had the same desecrated air as the lIbrary, causing Farren's sword to be cold and smiteless and Krumbleton's drinking horn to be enpty of mead. To make matters worse, they found that the daughter had stolen the archmage's horn of antimagic. After using it, she was surrounded by a field of antimagic. This reacted poorly with the amplifier itself, causing the nodes of the field to be visible as crackling energy spheres. The field was otherwise effective in warding off the party's magic.
- Harold and Farren rushed in to engage the daughter.
- Rust engaged another demon and was nearly killed, but Krumbleton backed him up and together they were able to take it down.
- The archmage came into the room to sling lightning at the other mage, distracting him long enough for rust to come in and finish him.
- Eventually, after great effort, and after defeating the other demon, Farren and Harold managed to knock the horn from the daughter's grasp, allowing them to smite her thoroughly. When Farren dealt the final blow, she fell from where she had been flying, nearly crushing Harold as she exploded.
- The party successfully defended the amplifier chamber for long enough for the archmage to reset it, and show krumbleton how to use it. He cast banishment on the demons through it. This was followed up by a remove curse spell.
- The party disabled the anti-teleportation wards, allowing for backup including Alton, Wyldo, Rambure, Donnie, Berninon, Cedric, Gef, and a couple gazers to enter and help during this time.
- No longer hidden by mind altering magic, the remaining demons were easily dispatched. The shalarin forces retreated to sea.
Meanwhile
- Alton received some training with piloting Donnie's ship.
- Alton, Donnie, and Wyldo discussed the possibility of joining the fight, but settled on continuing to distract from a distance.
Success and Rewards
- Farren attempted to raise the archmage's spirits. However, the archmage was distraught at the death of his daughter. He blamed himself and Vickie Bitterheart for this, though he did not elaborate.
- The archmage indicated that he would do what he could to help them defeat Vickie Bitterheart, but stated that he believed they would die if they were to fight her now.
- Harold's rapier was returned to him.
- The archmage rewarded the party with 10 000 gold pieces for their efforts.
- Donnie chased after the archmage to seek a similar reward.
- Alton found a ring on the ground.
- Rust was nearly attacked when he attempted to loot the many corpses on campus.
- Wyldo offered the teleportation circle in his basement to the party but they requested certain other items instead.
Vickie's Still Playing Games
- When the party returned to the ship, Crunch treated them to a meal. It was pretty good, though not quite on par with Krumbleton's cooking.
- Vickie Bitterheart made a surprise appearance at their table and was quickly told to leave.
- She did so, but not before revealing an angry Zed in a snow globe. Rust was unable to target this Zed with his magic.
- Cruch commented that she was trying to rile them.
