Erling Woods jr. owns and oversees the Sandwatch Farm. The secluded rock Amberlight moved to does not have much in terms of fertile farmland. His father engineered Erly rice to grow in this inhospitable, salty, climate. It is a favourite of the mages of Amberlight. 
He does not take kindly to being insulted.
