Master Wizard Cedar

of the Westbrook Glade

Cedar, a stubborn old man. His impatience and closed minded temperament does not make him very popular with the Tetrahedron Council, let alone regular people. Despite these flaws, he is very much highly respected with the Tetrahedron, especially with the High Wizards. As one of the oldest and wisest members in the council he was a strong candidate for the position of High Wizard, however his downfall for earning this prestigious position was already sealed several decades beforehand when he had failed several of his apprentices.   In the world of Elan Vital, many are confused by its power and sometimes are enchanted by the idea of powerful mages of old and story books of wise old wizards coming to save the hero at his most desperate hour, showing incredible feats of power through casting powerful spells.   However, in the grim reality of the world the use of Elan Vital is dangerous, and sometimes considered suicidal if one irresponsibly uses it. It can destroy one’s soul and can sometimes lead into the shattering of one’s very being if used irresponsibly.   Cedar in his early life was a young star - talented, and full of promise. His natural talents for the Elan Vital surpassed even the some of the most high ranked master wizards in the council. His ego and pride were overbearing for many, but unlike many people who boast of power, his ego was based on fact.   This naturally carried forward when he became a Master Wizard of the Tetrahedron at an early age of 25, and began to take on apprentices and show the “older generations” what it means to be powerful spell caster of Elan Vital.   However this lead to his downfall, many of his students became to entrenched in their ego that they began to use their power to gain riches and deliver retribution to others. One student however, Cedar would never forget the name of the student he truly failed.   “Robern”.   Robern had died during his apprenticeship - due to the negligence of Cedar. Robern had misused the Elan Vital and attempted to cast a spell that was over his skill level completely. This unfortunately lead to his soul being utterly annihilated by the chaotic torrents of the Elan Vital that surrounded his being.   Cedar fell into a deep depression, his ego gone; replaced by self-contempt and overvigilence. He became the crude old man that we see today.   Cedar never took on an apprentice after Robern, not until two desperate parents approached him many years later, begging him to take on their child as he had no place in their village but loved him so very much and knew his talents needed fostering.   When Cedar saw the boy “Eldric”, he was reluctant, reminded of the dreaded memory of Robern. But another part of him saw an optimistic future and that old ego that drove him so long ago, and the desire to pass on his knowledge. Cedar also saw something else that day in Eldric, a latent magical power that he saw in himself.   Cedar emerged from the crowd and approached the boy. Slowly he drew back his hood covering his face.   The young boy looked up at him with tears in his eyes.   “I will make this boy my apprentice, I will train him and teach him everything that I know, and he will come back strong. I swear this on my name as Master Wizard Cedar of the Westbrook Glade”
