Sangibu
Sangibu
The Sangibu take their name from their legend that they descend from one thousand settlers that came to the shores of southeastern Bukana. For centuries, these tribes survived as farmers and fishers, supplementing their diets with hunting and foraging. However, as their neighboring cultures prospered through trade with the outside world, the rocky islands of the Sangibu homeland became a haven for pirates and outcasts. The tribes suffered as the raiders preyed upon outlying settlements, leaving chaos in their wake. It wasn’t until Zamatos missionaries brought the The Multi-facetted Way of the One True Order, colloquially known as the Amethyst Church, to the region, that stability was returned.
Beliefs
The Sangibu largely converted en masse, absorbing some neighboring Berani tribes in the process. Since then, the Church has led a concerted effort to establish and maintain order in the surrounding waters. The larger barangays have since become a collection of allied city-states, called the Amethyst Sultanates. The capital of the most influential is Bulawan, the City of Candles. The Sangibu language has since incorporated many loanwords and syntax from Zamatosian and uses its script for writing.
While the Sangibu tribes flourish, the duties of the Church now underlie daily life in the Sultanates. Their belief is that among the near infinite powerful spirits, a singular manifestation of law and order exists. They hold that some of these deities are, in fact, facets of this all-mighty One. As their missionaries spread out, they encounter new cultures and new gods who may be facets of their one god. They collect as much information as they can and bring documentation of those spirits that they feel have promise to the Ascension Councils where they are assessed for inclusion in their pantheon of facets. Individual gods are still worshiped, but such reverence is now framed as being an aspect of the One.
Dev. Notes - Inspired largely by the "Moros" of the Philippines.
