Religious Slang on Waking Materia

Due to the diversity and relative involvement of Waking demigods and Umbral elderbeings following tumultuous centuries of extradimensional invasions, catastrophic flooding events and more, cultures on Waking Materia tend to run deep with colourful religious language.

Specific Meanings

Phrases that have a particular meaning.

"Aios forsake us"

Shows anger or exasperation toward something, claiming it will condemn us all. Refers to when Aios left the sky in mourning, leaving Materia under a decade of dark winter.

"Even Uhrmazd would be bored"

A particularly boring thing. Uhrmazd is a god of, among other things, infinite patience and his churches. His churches can have a dour and meditative reputation, sometimes nicknamed the "Bodhisattvas of Boredom".

"A face even Sheoldred couldn't love"

Exceedingly ugly. Sheoldred is the Duskscape Regent of, among other things, horror and nightmares, and is considered a mother figure to all things revolting.

"Ninalta bless my eyes"

Also refers to seeing something ugly or otherwise unpleasant. The harvest goddess Ninalta is also the matron of liquor and therefore "ale goggles": relying on inebriation to see something in a more positive light.

"Jenny take you!"

From a nickname of the goddess of sea monsters, Ob'Silexia. "Jenny Haniver" is a bastardization of the Koroan name for the kaiju goddess, Djen-Niha-Nivrau ("The Sea-Witch of Nireau").

"Jenny's on the strand tonight"

Also in reference to Ob'Silexia (above). Means that the seas are particularly dangerous and ships are at risk of disappearing.

"Slave Kings to my side"

Requests the aid of the "Slave Kings", Ronom & Ranarim, gods of weather, nautical travel, and luck, to bring about a successful sailing.

"Odd Couple keep me"

Same meaning as above; the Stormlords are sometimes called the "Odd Couple".

"Edda-basher"

In Ajoran societies, those who are too funamentalist in preaching the Eddas of Saint Ajora, presumably from "bashing" their hands against the book when speaking.

General

Exclamations that have no particular meaning.

"Laila..."

Invokes the name of the goddess of beauty, Laila By-the-Sea, to express awe, often at something beautiful.

"Ronom's hairy breeches!"

Thunderlord Ronom was known as "Ronom Hairy Breeches" in mortal life due to his iconic bison-skin pants. Used under all circumstances.

"Vira's bald head!" / "Vira's bright dome!" / etc.

Short for the god of swordsmanship & sacrifice, Hanavira-no-Kishiki. Famed for his bald head, which once scored a major victory for the Insurgent Gods by blinding his enemies with the sky's reflected gleam.

This certainly whetted my appetite for learning more about your gods and goddesses.   Am hard to find any constructive criticism other than "More, please".
