Tertium Space Port is the lifeline of Hive Tertium, a sprawling hub of activity that serves as the primary gateway for all off-world trade, military logistics, and personnel movement. The spaceport is an enormous, multi-leveled structure, sprawling across several square kilometers at the base of the hive. Its design is typical of Imperial infrastructure—functional, monolithic, and heavily fortified. The outer layers of the port are reinforced with void shields and layers of armored plating, capable of withstanding orbital bombardments and hostile incursions.
Key Facilities and Layout
The spaceport is divided into several key zones, each dedicated to specific functions. The primary landing zones dominate the central area, with vast, flat expanses where voidships of various classes can land, take off, and be serviced. These landing pads are surrounded by towering loading cranes, refueling stations, and repair yards, all of which are bustling with activity when the port is fully operational.
Adjacent to the landing zones are the cargo terminals, massive warehouses where goods are stored, sorted, and prepared for transport either into the hive or off-world. These terminals are heavily automated, with conveyor belts, loading servitors, and automated cranes working in concert to manage the constant flow of materials. Security around these areas is tight, with regular patrols by both the Adeptus Arbites and the spaceport's own security forces.
The northern edge of the spaceport houses the administrative offices and command centers. These are heavily fortified and include the spaceport’s control tower, which oversees all traffic in and out of the port, coordinating landings and take-offs with military precision. Adjacent to the control tower are the offices of the various guilds, trade cartels, and governmental representatives who manage the flow of commerce and oversee customs and taxation.
On the southern side, closer to the edge of the underhive, lies the industrial district. This area is a labyrinth of manufactorums, refineries, and storage tanks where raw materials are processed before being shipped off-world. The air here is thick with smog and the smell of burning promethium, and the workers who toil in this area are some of the most downtrodden in the hive. It is also here that the influence of the Pit Rats gang is most strongly felt, with the gang’s graffiti marking many of the walls and their members frequently seen in the area.
The Docking Spires and Transit Hub
Rising above the spaceport are the docking spires, immense structures that allow for the docking of larger voidships that cannot land on the surface. These spires connect to the spaceport via a series of high-speed transit lines, which also serve as the primary means of transporting goods and personnel between the port and the upper levels of Hive Tertium. The transit hub, located at the base of the spires, is a bustling nexus of activity, with trains constantly arriving and departing, carrying cargo, passengers, and occasionally military forces.
During the recent civil unrest spurred by the Pit Rats, the transit hub and docking spires have become critical points of contention. The gangs have targeted these areas, seeking to control the flow of resources and movement within the hive. The Arbites have responded with brutal crackdowns, leading to frequent clashes in the vicinity.
Adjacent Slum Districts
Surrounding the spaceport are the sprawling slum districts of the underhive, where the most impoverished citizens of Tertium reside. These areas are a stark contrast to the relatively orderly and controlled environment of the spaceport. The streets here are narrow and cluttered with debris, the buildings dilapidated and crumbling. Crime is rampant, and the influence of the Pit Rats gang is pervasive.
These slum districts are often the first point of contact for those arriving in Tertium via the spaceport, and they serve as a stark introduction to the brutal realities of life in the lower hive. The Arbites maintain a nominal presence in these areas, but their control is tenuous at best, with most of the population living in fear of both the authorities and the gangs that rule the streets.
In the aftermath of the anomaly, the situation around the spaceport has become even more precarious. The once-thriving hub is now a shadow of its former self, with many of the docking spires damaged or abandoned, and the adjacent districts descending further into chaos. As the forces of order struggle to maintain control, the spaceport remains a critical asset, its fate closely tied to the future of Hive Tertium itself.
