The Galatea

The very first ship built by The People Of Earth using an Einstein Mass Conversion Core. The first production of the Nereid Class Starship, it provides luxurious transportation for 1100 humans, and up to 1100 non-human animals, between Earth and the resorts on Venus.   Cabins are generous and well-appointed, and available from studio to 4-bedroom floorplans. A fully robotic kitchen provides gourmet, made-to-order room-service 24/7, but cabins with fully stocked kitchens are available, as many people enjoy cooking as a recreational or communal activity.   Though there are no exterior windows, ultra-high-resolution displays offer a photorealistic 3d display of the exterior of the ship on any interior wall of the ship, fed by the vast network of cameras and sensors on the exterior. Even the new advanced bionic eyes can't differentiate between the displays and an actual window.   There is a large on-board permaculture forest, allowing people to forage for fresh fruits and veggies, or to just stroll the winding paths through the lush vegetation.   The ship accelerates at 1g, providing a 1-way trip between Earth and Venus that takes 1.5-4 days, depending on the relative orbital positions of the 2 planets. This level of thrust also creates a normal gravitational experience for occupants, except during an hour or so in the middle when the ship has to change directions and start decelerating.

Power Generation

The electron surplus from the Einstein Mass Conversion Core is harnessed to provide power for on-ship systems. There is ample energy for VR theaters, heated pools, etc.

Propulsion

The bulk of the energy released from the Einstein Mass Conversion Core comes in the form of a massive explosive force during proton/neutron disolution, which is channeled through thrusters to propel the ship.

Weapons & Armament

The Gal is a luxury transport ship, and is accordingly not equipped with offensive armaments.

Armor and defense

The Galateia has thousands of high powered lasers covering the exterior intended to prevent space debris from hitting the ship.

Communication Tools & Systems

The Gal maintains an extremely high bandwidth tight-beam light-speed data connection to both Earth and Venus. The latency makes this inadequate for real-time communication and multiplayer video games, but it's more than adequate for content streaming.   Additionally, there is plentiful quantum bandwidth available for instantaneous communicaton to both Earth and Venus. The quantum links are replenished on each docking.

Sensors

The exterior of the ship is densely covered in multi-spectral cameras, along with mid- and long-range lidar arrays, providing a high resolution 3D model of the ship's surroundings, with a radius of about 0.1AU before the resolution becomes too low to be useful.

Additional & auxiliary systems

The ship has enough compressed gases to provide breathing air for the fairly short trip between Earth and Venus. However, there are also many living plants on board, and whole decks of dense vegetation that handle recycling the air, and it is rare that the ship has to dip into its compressed reserves.   All Nereid-class ships have a living permaculture food forest spanning multiple decks of the ship that produces much of the air and food required for the journey.   There are several swimming pools modeled after natural environments, offering a range of different water temperatures.   There is a large holodeck on board that can provide a wide range of multi-user vr entertainment services.
