Session I: Introduction Report

General Summary

At the behest of their captain, Zaufanie Giff, the party escaped in a lifeboat from their ship currently being torn apart by a pirate ship made of black and white wood. Zaufanie told them to go to Dragonrock and the Ocean's Wake bar. His last instructions are cut short as a cannonball rips through the powder magazine and the resulting shockwave send the lifeboat hurtling through Wildspace toward Dragonrock. Limping to the docks, the party is greeted by Sergeant Fedorov and Private Turgenev of the Docks Regiment of Streltsy to process their customs intake. After arguing with the customs agents, the party eventually gave up the lifeboat in exchange for the docking fees and other fines they incurred while badgering the customs police. The party walked over to the Ocean's Wake bar and spoke with Brassons the neogi patron of the establishment. After relaying to the Torm obsessed bartender that Zaufanie was dead in the explosion that destroyed the ship, he let them stay at his place. After settling in, the party hears a commotion from the street that Brassons asks them to investigate. Coming outside, the party finds a crowd angry at a half-elf named Mr. Popansa for knocking a child over in the street. Popansa asks the party to take a check he writes to Galder Tindaleron, an accountant in the Elven District who will compensate them and the child. Popansa disappears while the crowd yells at the party to do as he said to help the child. As they are yelling, the Streltsy are alerted to the disturbance. Lieutenant Sulkolov asks the party to take the check into the elven district as it would be tedious for him to do it and he would have to launch a full inquiry which would involve the party in his investigation. He also offers them upfront payment of 2 silver each to do him the favor. The party take him up on it and find the elven district where Galder Tindaleron's servant Yanny, a brown haired half-elf, comes to greet them and take them to his master. Tindaleron welcomes the party and thanks them for bringing the check, saying he put a magical trace on the check book so that he could track where the money goes. He is the financial manager for Dr. Elvarion, a well respected alchemist. He enlists the party in investigating the origins of Mr. Popansa as Tindaleron believes that he is Elvarion's illigitimate son and blackmailing the doctor. His main evidence is that Elvarion went on an expedition to Toril and said he found something beautiful, which Tindaleron believes is a euphemism for having a sexual liason resulting in pregnancy. He also has reason to believe that Elvarion changed his will to favor Popansa. He gives them two leads: Dr. Garth Harryfoot, a halfling who went with Elvarion on the expedition and Galenda Fairwind, Elvarion's lawyer. Tindaleron gives the party 2 gp each for delivering the check and they set out for Galenda Fairwind's house. Arriving there, the party tell her that they are investigating Tindaleron for embezzlement. Dalvanak uses his abilities to search her surface thoughts and they find through that and conversation that Elvarion was castrated in an accident 300 years ago and Popansa can't be more than 100 years old. Her thoughts revealed that Elvarion did change his will to favor Popansa. The party left. As the party made their way to Dr. Harryfoot's house, they caught sight of Popansa. Dalvanak probed his thoughts and gained disjointed thoughts about him going somewhere and doing something shameful. Trying to probe deeper, Popansa was alerted to the presence and cast a spell Grewarum recognized as Pass Without Trace, ducking down an ally and the party hears him laugh as he seemingly goes underground. The party gears up to follow him.
