Session XXXII: Sore Losers Report
General Summary
In the midst of their battle with Sadram and his thugs, Krato, Eloise, and Faddius received some back up from Garlith and Darius. The blind thug somehow hit Eloise with his longsword, but his compatriot's sword found no purchase in the warforge's plated form. Eloise retaliated with a spell of radiant light, and while she severely injured a thug, her hands began to cramp with magical carpel tunnel. Garlith then dashed forward, firing his hand crossbows at Sadram, burying his bolts into the illithid and causing the badly injured mind flayer to begin a retreat. That is, he tried, but not before Faddius and Darius got in strikes with fire bolts and rapiers respectively. The thugs attempted to take down Krato and Eloise again, but failed to hit despite no longer being blind. Eloise attempted a spell, but her arcane carpel tunnel prevented her from performing the somatic components. Garlith proved his lucky shot ran out when both his shots into the thugs missed. Faddius, with a humble firebolt, downs Sadram to gurgle on his own purple blood.
The thugs ask to leave, seeing their employer had gone out of business. The party let them leave and as Sadram dies, he warns the party that their gnome friend is going to get them into trouble. In Sadram's pocket, Faddius finds a money pouch with 50 gold pieces with a note. The note read: "I am an expert operative. I am not going to have compromising information on my person. Idiot." Krato takes the money left on the gambling table and returns it to their owners. The party return Khara Sulwood's memories and she hands Faddius her grandfather's diary. The diary tell of the legends of Doust Sulwood and the Knights of Myth Drannor. It speaks about how Sulwood and the knights braved the Haunted Halls of Eveningstar, finding the crypt of the Zhentarim mage Whisper, the last known owner of Mzehntul's Runes and the legendary wizard's rings. Two of the rings were found but not the book or the other five. Doust Sulwood wondered if they truly killed Whisper and whether the rest of the rings could be found in the crypt.
As the party attempts to return to the ship, they come across a large gathering of people in the Docks Ward. They hear the xenophobic sermon of Grigori Popov, the self-proclaimed Lampadnik to the Boyars. He criticizes Kynaz Stolypin and tells them that he is leading the city to perdition. Turning away from the crowd, a man in a white kaftan and the tall hat indicative of the Rynda Regiment tells the party not to pay heed to Popov. He introduces himself as Nikita Yussopov and recognizes them as the solver of the Golden Hills serial killer. He offers them a job when they come back.
As the party sails for Coliar, they see in the distance a battle between Imperial Elven Navy ships and ships Krato, Darius and Eloise recognize as a resurgent Scro. The Widdershins docks at Hisssta and the party encounter Senior Commissar Schlith Darkscale with his deputy and two orderlies. To receive the goods the party brought, the party have to fill out a large stack of paperwork. Faddius got through it and Commissar Darkscale told them that he can only pay them in republican scrips, which have no value outside the lizardfolk communities on Coliar. He tells them that they can go to the Central Payments and Reimbursement Office down the street for non-native payment. In that office, the party talk to Commissar Slickback who gives them more paperwork to fill out. After submitting the paperwork, Commissar Slickback informs them that he does not have enough currency to renumerate them and they will have to wait 6 to 9 months to get full payment. He informs them that they could go to Divisional Commissar Icefang in the Requisition and Redistribution Division at the Department of Foreign Numismatic Resources.
The party take their paperwork to the Requisition and Redistribution Division at the Department of Foreign Numismatic Resources and find Divisional Commissar Icefang who gives them a slightly smaller stack of paperwork to formalize the information request. After a kerfuffle filling it out, the party submit the paperwork and Divisional Commissar Icefang tells them that he cannot fulfill the request because he is awaiting a disbursement from a gem stone miner—he has an easement where he pays for the privilege to mine the gems—who claims that the gem mine he is trying to collect from is infested with monsters. Icefang put in a request at the Department of Internal Affairs, Environmental Threats and Domestic Disturbance Division, Office of Complex and Tactile Investigations, but has not heard back yet. He expects a response in 3-6 months. Alternatively, he suggests the party go talk to the miner and see if they can persuade him to pay up or resolve the issue.
The party came to the mine where a few tents with "House Mourne, INC." A human with a wooden board with papers attached to it named Kolya Kusimich and he is House Mourne's manager for the mine they got rights to on Coliar. He explains that the mine has been overrun by rust monsters that ate the pickaxes and other equipment. He hired some "adventurers" who were actually bandits who thought they could take control of the mine themselves, figuring that House Mourne won't be able to expend resources to catch them. He thinks they killed or captured miners, including the foreman, who has the deed to the mine which is absolutely necessary to fill out the lizardfolk paperwork.
Garlith takes off all his clothes and equipment, liquifying in order to get through cracks in the palisade before the mine. He encounters some of the bandits who he is able to calm down and convince he is on their side. They tell them that the rust monsters slaughtered their team and that they won't go into the mine. They feel like they can't leave because House Mourne and the lizards might come for them without the deed.
