The War of the Spheres was a massive conflict that took place in the 14th century in Realmspace, Greyspace, and Krynnspace. It was fought between the Free Space Alliance, a coalition of most spacefaring races, and the Vodoni Empire, which controlled twelve crystal spheres.

The Vodoni had long been a powerful and ambitious empire, and their conquests in the spheres were vast and brutal. They saw themselves as the rightful rulers of all space, and they sought to impose their will on all who dared to resist them.   The Free Space Alliance was formed in response to this threat. The races of the spheres saw the Vodoni for what they were: conquerors and oppressors who sought to enslave all who opposed them. The Alliance was composed of many different races, from the elves of the Realmspace to the dragons of Krynnspace.   The war ended shortly after its emperor, Vulkaran, was defeated in personal combat.
