Salmalalaru Family
One of the major chiche trading families in south Chereladi.
Structure
The family decisions are made by the head of the family, usually a patriarch. His sons are considered the heads of their own districts and are expected to work together to maintain order and smooth operations in the marketplace. The sons may designate any number of officers within the family to act in their interests but everyone must swear loyalty to the patriarch in order to benefit from the family's power.
Culture
Unlike most Chiche families, Salmalalaru has become something of a mafia-like figure in Gaath Barony. They maintain good relations with Baronness Perryn Gaath in exchange for her assistance when military matters get out of hand in the city. Rumors also run that Perryn Gaath's oldest grandchild, Seraphina Gaath is a Salmalalaru bastard, but no one talks about it too loudly.
Public Agenda
The family maintains that their only interest is in the well being and prosperity of the people who live, work, and trade in Salmalalaru. Street talk suggests they are primarily interested in the prosperity of their own family at the expense of the common folk.
Assets
The Salmalalaru family is one of the few Chiche families to own a permanent location. They built and maintain the entire settlement of Salmalalaru in Gaath Barony. All taxes and fees associated with selling and buying in the settlement's massive, interconnected marketplace return to the family coffers.
History
The Salmalalaru family broke away from the Solomon family around the same time North Ladians were settling the northern reaches of Chereladi. During this split, they made a deal with the North Ladi nobles who settled in Gaath that they would fund the largest marketplace in the Barony if the Gaath nobles were willing to help bankroll it. Baron Gaath agreed and a handshake deal between the two families has existed ever since. Jayne Salmalalaru and his sons run their market city smoothly and profitably, bringing back their own profits while Gaath Barony flourishes for the volume of trade and travel which the market generates.

Friendly
The Noelle family admires the Salmalalaru spirit, though they are generally baffled by the desire to live, work, and flourish in a single location. The Noelles continue to be nomadic and Salmalalaru men have a strong pull toward the women of the Noelle family.
Tentatively Positive
Salmalalaru is suspect in the eyes of the Zerada family elders due to their decision to market their land and profit by the sales which happen there. Zerada's lack of interest in profit makes them just as suspect to the Salmalalaru patriarch.
Wary
These two families come from a common root, as the similarities of their name suggests. The Solomon family resists friendly relations with the Salmalalaru family, though Jayne has put out feelers of cooperation, even suggesting a favorable marriage between his son, Jinn and a daughter of the Solomon family. The suggestion was rejected but communication has not been severed.
