The Angel
A sentient clockwork angel which lives in the gear-wound estate of Gawain and Oriana Clockmaster.
Physical Description
Facial Features
Facial plate is a porcelain mask. Details were hand-painted onto the porcelain to highlight cheeks, eyebrows, and lips. Mouth is articulated to open and close with speak, hinged at the side of the mouth rather than the jaw. Eyes are articulated and functional, consisting of articulated lids which close to meet in the center, and an eyeball in each socket with articulated iris, crystal lens and full range of motion. The irises are painted blue and some wear shows where the eyelids have rubbed against the paint, showing the silver underneath.
Physical quirks
Prone to rust at joints and needs regular maintenance in order to move fluidly. Sometimes leaves slight oil stains on surfaces he has touched due to the level of lubrication his hands require.
Special abilities
The Angel is self-winding, a technology which is known in clock-making circles but largely unused outside of small mechanics. Gawain Clockmaster mentioned that the technology was mostly used for wrist-watches and he had never seen an example of self-winding clockwork as large as the Angel before. A pendulum weight in his left hand swings with his movement and automatically tightens a series of springs, storing energy to keep him mobile during periods of inactivity. If he stays completely still for longer than two days, he will wind down and his consciousness will cease. Walking, running and flying wind the springs faster and for longer. Small motions like reading, cooking, gardening, etc also wind the springs but not as efficiently.
