Vaniel Sayer (a.k.a. Van)
Vaniel Sayer is a thief who is fairly well known in Ornlat. He and his cousin, Fritjoff the Thief have been known to pull elaborate heists, usually which end with one or both of them sitting in jail. The local guards know them both by name and also know where they usually hide. Van is tired of the criminal lifestyle and frequently tries to go straight, only to get dragged back into something illicit by various contacts.

Van received little to no formal education, but studied the tools and tricks of the thieving trade with his cousin. His mother taught him to read when he was young, but has never told him how she learned. He also spent several months apprenticed to a blacksmith but was dismissed when several expensive pieces went missing. Van was not directly to blame, as Fritjoff did the actual stealing, but Fritjoff knew what to steal because Van told him the value of the materials.
Employment
Van and Fritjoff have pulled multiple capers, cons and other illicit operations in order to fund their lifestyle. Fritjoff's lifestyle preferences are much more expensive than Van's, but he participates just as heartily.

He is very good with spatial reasoning and is usually the member of the team who triangulates where excavated holes will exit, where it's best to enter to be close to a target and how best to approach a target to most efficiently collect the desired objects.
