Sect of Erebus

The Erebus Sect is hugely popular among the Imperial College of Magic and academia types. Erebus promises access to knowledge and power through his access to the void. Because of the popularity among the intellectual elites, Erebus' sect is highly structured.
Initiation into the sect is quite an expensive proposition. Prospective initiates, or "Prosps", must be recommended for inclusion by at least three tenured members. Then the proposed initiate must pay the background check fee, which funds the investigation into their past for potentially damaging or exploitable information. The fee is usually around 1000gp but can be higher if the Investigation deparment believes more detail will be required.
Assuming they pass the background check, the Prosp is initiated to the entry rank of "Rooker". Rookers must spend their time studying the indoctrination materials if they ever hope to advance. Rookers must complete a series of knowledge exams about the various aspects and lore of Erebus to advance. Naturally there is a hefty fee of 500gp for each of the five exams.
Once they pass all the tests they are promoted in a secret ceremony to the rank of "Cup Bearer". Less is known about the roles and responsibilities of this and higher ranks, as the secrets become more closely guarded.
High ranks are rumored to include: "Book Bearer", "Flame Bearer", "Void Bearer", then "Book Bringer", "Flame Bringer", and "Void Bringer".
The highest rank and leader of the Sect is the Magister of Erebus. The Magister serves on the Council of Magisters under the leadership of the Arch Magister.
