First Great North War

After the initial establishment of the Empire by Heralda there were many wild and lawless tribes who chose not to become aligned with this new power in the region.  Warlords led tribes and bands all around the region to the North of the Frigera river.  Further North still the Northern Realms started to unite under the single banner of Ulthart Splitskull.   
Ulthart started expanding his territory into what is now the Northolt, creating a loose alliance of tribes who were convinced (often forcibly) to serve under his banner.  
Around the year 151AD his dominance extended towards the Andasian Tribes who lived on what is now known as the Andasia river.   They called upon the Empire for help and so began the First Great North War.    
The war continued over the next three decades, but after many battles and campaigns the Newly Forged Empire conquered territory of most of what is now called The Northolt Extending as far as Glomspitz in the North, and including Feratt, the important trading port of Hailhart.  Frigera and Gildera were also brought into the Empire at this time.  
Although part of the Imperial territory, the cities of the North were not given equal status with those of the south.   Instead of been given independent Baronies they were put under the control of a Grand Marshall, a uniquely powerful position, which could be seen to rival the Emperor in the region. 
This ultimately led to the First War of Cessation  when the Northern states rose up in rebellion against their southern masters.
