Badge of Elven Favour
It is something of a trope in literature in both Westlo and beyond the mountains that elves, over the years, have designated people of other folk as 'elf-friends'. This rarely happens nowadays, but perhaps that has always been the case.
This brooch, which is made of silver and features a tree and three starts, has strange elvish characters on it, which cannot be read by ultra-montaine elves (even highly-educated ones like Anna Mirfast). In the language of the elves of Westlo, they simply say 'Elf-friend'.
Manufacturing process
By the looks of it, the badge was meticulously fashioned from a solid piece of silver. The skill involved to carefully carve and chisel out the design far exceeds the capacities of the indigenous elvish civilisation of the present day.
Significance
There are almost no humanfolk elf-friends in the history of Westlo. Therefore, it is possible that this badge once belonged to a human of historical significance. By its size and weight, we might surmise that this badge, like others of its type known from the outside world, is made for a person of human, orc, or elven size.
While elves and orcs are traditionally depicted as enemies, we note that in Westlo legend, these peoples were said to have lived in harmony before the advent of humanfolk, so this badge could have been made for either an orc or a human.
This item was given to Mochache the Ranger by Anna Mirfast when the party visited her at The Backshee.
