Alantha Goldcrest is a very ambitious Sea Elf.
He's not evil in the dramatic concept of the term, but he is determined that the Goldcrest Clan becomes the most powerful Sea Elf clan in the world.
To achieve this he embarked on an elaborate plan beginning with his marriage to the widowed Princess Imryth of Caledor. His expectation was that when the Princess ascended to the Dragon Throne of Caledor he would be able to rule through her as Regent of the kingdom. Unfortunately, the Princess has frustrated his hopes by refusing to take the throne herself and naming her son Prince Amris as her heir instead and passing the Dragon Ring of Ascension to him.
