When an adventurer, a soldier or a sailor needs a wound dressed or a limp amputated, Mannfred Hilfer is there to lend his skill with the saw and needle to the task. His expertise is matched by the compassion he feels for those who need his services, and on weekends he is often found in the Drecksack and Sindelfingen Bezirks, tending the poor and unfortunate. When he is not out on duty, he can be found in his practice in the Reikerbahn, where he and his nurse Hilda take care of those who seek out his aid.
Truth is that the neigbours are very unsettled by the almost constant screaming from the patients, but also aware that they one day will need the attention of Herr Hilfer, so they merely avoid getting close his house as much as they can. His knowledge of the human physiology is unrivalled in Altdorf, and his text on this matter, Medicina Corpus Rex, is considered the definitive work in the field.
