The Birth of Slaanesh in the warp causes the explosion of the warp gates abandoned by the Old Ones over both poles of the planet allowing energy from the warp to escape into the material world.

As a result of the selfish indulgences of the Eldar, the intergalactic void known as the Warp is contaminated giving rise to the birth of a powerful sentient warp entity known as Slaanesh. In its selfish hunger for power, Slaanesh expands rapidly to occupy the entirety of the void and bursts out of Warpspace destroying many of the Interdimensional gateway built by the Old Ones.   This event known as The Great Cataclysm floods thousands of planets in the galaxy including most of the Eldar homeworlds and has created a permanent rift between the immaterium of the Warp and the physical universe twenty thousand light-years across known as The Eye of Terror.   The region of space-time contained within the Eye of Terror constitutes its own reality, existing within both the material universe and the immaterial dimension of the warp. This region is also referred to as the Empyrean, the Aether, the Sea of Souls, the Realm of Chaos, Warpspace or most commonly, the Warp and consists of an alternate dimension of pure psychic energy that echoes and underlies the familiar four dimensions of the material universe.   On our planet, both the polar warp gates were breached by the shock of psychic energy released by the event creating a massive new moon of solidified warp energy over the planet and flooding the planet's surface with warp energy. The world descended into chaos as the energy flowed over the surface of the world desperately seeking power and sustenance from the psychic energy it detected from the mortals that lived there.
