Lord's New Clothes Contest

Once in a while, even a shapeshifter equipped with an army of tailors ready to make any suit one could imagine can lose their inspiration and suffer from burnout. On the third year after the Extinction, Lord of Glamour was going through theirs. Even when their subjects were trying to ensure them of their beauty and genius, they've fallen into despair. The lives of their subjects were in danger, not only because anyone could become a victim of their next tantrum, but their mood swings affected the conditions in their Domain, bringing sudden changes of weather and cataclysms, warping the buildings, and even affecting the gravity.
And that's when one very brave subject suggested a new idea for their ruler.

Yearly contest

Every year, around the summer, Lord of Glamour hosts a contest within the borders of their Domain. "Lord's New Clothes" Contest is a challenge for anyone who would want to create a new appearance for the Lord.

Rules

The contest lasts for a week, at the end of which all signed contestants must submit their designs. Failing to do so will result in the death of the participant. During the contest, one is free to cheat and steal from, and kill other contestants. Submitting a design that already has been submitted will result in disqualification and death. The designs can be both human and inhuman. Plagiarising the designs from the years before, knowingly or unknowingly, results in disqualification. Any designs that might prove uncomfortable, hurtful or may be created to mock or weaken the Lord result in disqualification.

Rewards

Since the first contest, the 1st place reward winner receives an invitation to become the fashion designer for the Lord of Glamour to the day they die, no matter if they want it or not. Compared to that, the places from 11 to 20 don't get any reward, while any places further than that are treated the same as if they were disqualified. That is unless there were many wonderful designs the Lord loved that year. The real rewards the contestants want to win are the ones for places 2 to 10. They vary each year but they are always something either worth a lot or making a life outside the Domain easier. Weapons, artifacts, useful items or services, wards against Spirits.
As such, the challenge of taking part in the contest is to not win it and at the same time to get within the first 20 places.

Somewhere within the Domain of the Lord of Glamour, there is an archive where all of the designs from previous years are kept. Just finding this place is hard, but once one does they need to get through various security measures, from humans and spirits, automated and mystical ones. Even after they manage to do so, one will have to go through hundreds of papers just to discover what they have to avoid when creating their design.
