Jacob Reiseille

"I do not like talking about him. But I suppose we must if I am to clear the air... let us discuss the lunatic who was my father."
— Sorvetz Reisel
Most records on Jacob Reiseille have been heavily edited after his death, and a large portion of what remains has been classified by the Lyran Intelligence Corps at the request of Archon Alessandro Steiner. Public information is fairly scarce, but it is known he was born on Rigil Kentarus. Most records suggest he was not the first choice to lead the company, but the alterations make it difficult to take much at face value. It cannot be disputed Jacob was busy expanding the number of production facilities across the Lyran Commonwealth, and increased the research and development budget by a significant amount. These acts coincided with some questionable partnerships with other companies for distribution into both the Draconis Combine and Free Worlds League. For the most part, these partnerships bore fruit and allowed Rysel Industries to poach a few personnel assets from these companies.

Things began to change when Jacob's son was born and his wife died in the process. It was claimed he never truly was able to look past the death of his wife when considering Sorvetz, but there were other things which began to show a fraying grasp on things. Jacob ordered the research and development of Rysel Medical Laboratories to look into the redevelopment of artificial wombs, stating he was certain such an option could have allowed his wife to survive the troubled pregnancy.

The diversion of funding into the research seemed to continue in increasing amounts until Sorvetz felt it necessary to confront his father over several discrepancies in the company budget. This confrontation escalated into a split in the company, with Jacob talking those loyal to him into removing large portions of materiel and data to handle his own projects. Sorvetz chose to enlist the aid of mercenaries to hunt down his father and finally put an end to him on Carnwath.

The Master Plan

The death of Jacob's wife left him severely traumatized, and vulnerable to many of his worst impulses. During this time, Jacob was approached by someone who was aware of caches put aside by Rysel forebears to keep some technologies from becoming truly lost. Among these caches were medical technology which could no longer be constructed, but were still able to be used with careful maintenance. This included a number of artificial wombs and genetic sequencing equipment, which Jacob saw as a sign to embrace an idea his younger self had discarded in favor of running the company. He wanted to engineer a new ruling class, and before now the plans had been to use a more old-fashioned method of arranged marriages.

This would be much easier to manage, even if Jacob decided informed consent was not always necessary to begin the program. He managed to acquire gene-scans of several families which caught his interest, and when his son became of age he arranged a marriage to one of his selected females for the project. This allowed him to easier access her genetic material, which became part of the template he had decided on. The frequent "routine examinations" aroused Sorvetz's suspicion more than the steady diversion of funding, but the two being related caused the younger man to quickly discern enough of what was going on to confront his father. This eventually set off the Rysel Corporate War, where a large concentration of military assets were put to work over this "family disagreement". Jacob would maintain to any who inquired about the matter of BattleMechs being seen fighting on company grounds there was nothing to be concerned about, even as he scrambled to retrieve all assets he needed to continue his project.

After it became clear there was no winning the war through force of arms, Jacob turned to his partners and entrusted them with the task of continuing on the project. With the Ouroboros Sun founded, Jacob was willing to face his end in order to throw Sorvetz off the trail of where the project was proceeding. While captive following the Battle of Loup-Masque, Jacob taunted his son about whether he knew things were over or not, and in order to goad his son into murder... crossed a line. Jacob insinuated he might have done some alterations to the fetus carried by his daughter-in-law, and a gene-scan might be published to show it. The older man had miscalculated however, as instead of enraging Sorvetz, it just made him exhausted of dealing with the matter. He presented the idea of doing such himself, and then dissolving the company.

The idea of the company being broken up, and all the work which had been done coming to nothing, drove Jacob into a frenzy where he broke the restraints and security had to restrain him. Sorvetz was the one gloating this time as he borrowed a sidearm from his security detail and shot his father twice - once in the forehead, and once in the chest.
