Dedlan Island
More like Drunk-Man Island.People say that all of Dedlan Island is, in fact, just one big vineyard. That is not entirely true - a recent census showed that only about 47% of all land is planted with grapes, although it likely covers a majority of arable land. And the use of grapes goes far beyond just wine on this island! Although calling it "just wine" would likely get you severely beaten up, so please do not repeat these words. The people of Dedlan Island have a fascinating (and somewhat disturbing) obsession with everything made from grapes: dried grapes are eaten as snacks, rare stew is made without adding in some grapes, and the most traditional meal consists of minced meat mixed with herbs and wrapped in grape leaves, which then gets stewed or fried depending on the household. Needless to say, they are particularly proud of their wine which is widely considered to be the best across both Old and New Worlds. Capital - New Halgroud.
History
The Eirish discovered this island over a century ago. The settlers were amazed at the first harvest, which was much more bountiful than they have ever seen. The Ceiteach Family, former winemakers who had lost their lands, saw an opportunity.. Good-quality wine was always in high demand back in the Old World, for there are few regions with suitable climate. Soon wine started flowing back to Wellimbrook Archipelago in hundreds of gallons, enriching everyone involved in the farming and trading alike. The Ceiteach Family were granted nobility, and many new settlers came to the island.
However, the price of land soon skyrocketed making it nearly impossible to purchase it for anything but highly profitable wine business. This resulted in a large minority of Kosaris led by the wealthy Ceiteach Family settling on the island. However, the wine obsession of the locals has played a bad joke with them, given the otherwise welcoming attitude towards the Kosari.
Vines for veins and wine for blood. Fire for heart and nothing for brain. You see, the Eirish settlers traditionally made red wine - while the Kosari settlers preferred white wine instead. This resulted in Wine Wars, an absurd-sounding event. The island bled and burnt, although no one stooped as low as to intentionally destroy another's vineyards. This started a larger war between the Kingdom of Eire and the Ardenian Empire , and part of the island was under Ardenian rule for several years. While the island was since reunited, the war still left wounds in the heart of many of its people. To prevent further conflicts, the Wine Festival was created so that arguments could be solved with bottles - not swords.
